Mission: Impossible 8 – The Final Reckoning
Hardly any actor has shaped popcorn movies as much as Tom Cruise. With "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning", the eighth part of the spy film series is imminent. The plot picks up directly after the events of part 7: Ethan Hunt wants to destroy an artificial intelligence, but other factions seek to harness its power for themselves.
Joining Tom Cruise again are Vanessa Kirby as the White Widow, Simon Pegg as Benji, Ving Rhames as Luther and Hayley Atwell as Grace. With an impressive running time of 169 minutes, it is the longest movie in the entire series. "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" will be released in theaters on May 23, 2025.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
The world of "John Wick" is becoming bigger and bigger: after the four movies of the main series with Keanu Reeves, the spin-off film "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina" is coming out soon. This time, however, it's Ana De Armas who takes on the leading role.
The new movie is set during the events of the third part of the main series. It revolves around the former ballet dancer Eve. In order to avenge the murder of her family, she undergoes training to be an assassin – with the notorious Ruska Roma. But John Wick himself will also appear in the movie, as Keanu Reeves is part of the cast as well. Other roles are played by Ian McShane and "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus, for example. Action fans won't need to wait much longer: "Ballerina" opens in cinemas on June 6, 2025.
Jurassic World 4: Rebirth
Finally, more dinosaur action! Three years after "Jurassic World: Dominion", a new era of the popular film series begins. "Rebirth" centers on completely new characters this time. The story revolves around a special team on a secret mission: their goal is to secure genetic material from dinosaurs in order to develop a new, groundbreaking cure. However, the team is stranded together with civilians on a forbidden island that used to be home to a top-secret research facility. The group now finds itself dealing with completely new threats and mysteries.
The new "Jurassic World" film will shift its focus back to horror elements. Hollywood superstar Scarlett Johansson plays the leading role. Also involved are "Moonlight" actor Mahershala Ali and "Bridgerton" star Jonathan Bailey. "Jurassic World: Rebirth" was directed by "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards. From July 2, 2025, we will be able to enjoy the dinosaurs on the big screen once again.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps
The next big Marvel highlight is coming up! "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is set in a retro-futuristic world of the 1960s. The Fantastic Four have to face the mighty Galactus and his herald the Silver Surfer. But they must also balance heroism and family – a challenge that becomes more personal than they anticipate.
This time, "The Last of Us" star Pedro Pascal embodies Mister Fantastic. The cast also includes "Mission: Impossible" actress Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, "Stranger Things" actor Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Julia Garner slips into the role of the Silver Surfer. The theatrical release is near: "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" awaits superhero fans in theaters starting July 25, 2025.
Nobody 2
After the success of the first film, Bob Odenkirk returns as an inconspicuous but highly dangerous ex-killer in "Nobody 2". In the sequel, family man Hutch Mansell will once again revisit his bloody past. In addition to "Better Call Saul" star Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen and "Back to the Future" legend Christopher Lloyd are also back. Likewise taking part this time is "Basic Instinct" actress Sharon Stone. From August 15, 2025, the unexpected action hero will be ready for his next bloody turn.
Predator: Badlands
The iconic hunter returns – a new "Predator" film is in the making. "Predator: Badlands" is set in the future on a remote planet. The plot centers on two contrasting twin sisters whose paths cross with a young Predator who has been outcast by his clan. The trailer naturally promises plenty of monster action. After the acclaimed "Prey", director Dan Trachtenberg is once again being entrusted with the project. The Predator will return to theaters from November 7, 2025.
But "Predator: Badlands" is not the only project in the franchise that you will be able to enjoy in 2025. The animated film "Predator: Killer of Killers" will premiere on Disney Plus on June 6. Its plot is set in the past, however.
Mortal Kombat 2
It's time for another round of "Mortal Kombat"! In 2025, fans of the video game can look forward to the sequel to the 2021 film. After the gory first part, the journey in "Mortal Kombat 2" now takes us to Hollywood. An important role will be played by the iconic character Johnny Cage, played by "The Boys" star Karl Urban. After the first part laid the foundations for the conflict between Earthrealm and Outworld, "Mortal Kombat 2" finally brings the legendary tournament to the big screen.
The movie will feature the return of several characters from part 1, but new characters will be introduced as well. For example, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Tati Gabrielle as Jade are new to the cast. Fans are looking forward to the theatrical release on October 24, 2025.
Avatar 3: Fire and Ash
We are heading back to Pandora: "Avatar: Fire and Ash" is possibly the biggest blockbuster highlight of the year! The story ties in directly with "Avatar: The Way of Water" and follows Jake and Neytiri on their journey, during which they meet the mysterious Ash People. The movie will show even more aspects of Pandora with new clans, cultures and landscapes. Master director James Cameron is also aiming to further blur the lines between good and evil – with the introduction of the Ash People, for example.
Alongside Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington, "Alien" star Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet are also returning for the sequel. New to the cast is "Game of Thrones" actress Oona Chaplin as the leader of the Ash Clan. On December 19, 2025, we will finally be able to delve back into the breathtaking world of Pandora.
The Mandalorian and Grogu
In 2026, action also awaits us in a galaxy far, far away. After a break from movie theaters that lasted many years, "Star Wars" is celebrating its comeback with "The Mandalorian and Grogu". The film is set after the third season of the popular show "The Mandalorian" and tells of a new adventure of Grogu and Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal. A first trailer has already been shown at "Star Wars Celebration 2025" in Japan – and it promises plenty of action!
Also playing a role in the movie is Zeb Orrelios, a character known from "Star Wars Rebels". Hollywood legend Sigourney Weaver is also part of the cast. The director is "The Mandalorian" creator Jon Favreau. "The Mandalorian and Grogu" will premiere in cinemas on May 22, 2026.
Avengers 5: Doomsday
The Avengers are reuniting! 2019 saw the release of "Endgame", the last movie in the series to date, but that will change in 2026: with "Avengers: Doomsday", the MCU's newest mega event finally awaits us. Part of the big cast has already been announced: it includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and many others. This time, numerous "X-Men" actors such as Ian McKellen as Magneto and Patrick Stewart as Professor X are also part of the cast. In addition, we will get to see the characters from "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" and "Thunderbolts*". The antagonist Doctor Doom is played by Robert Downey Jr.
"Doomsday" will once again be directed by the Russo brothers, who have already realized the last two "Avengers" movies. A release date has also been set: the movie will finally hit theaters on May 1, 2026. But there's more: one year later, a sixth part will already follow with "Avengers: Secret Wars" – once again directed by the Russo brothers, of course. The release date is May 7, 2027.
The Odyssey
After his big Oscar-winning film "Oppenheimer", Christopher Nolan is making his comeback with the mythical action epic "The Odyssey"! The movie is based on Homer's famous Odyssey. Fans of epic adventures and Greek mythology can look forward to a true highlight. The story centers on the mythological hero Odysseus. After the end of the siege of Troy, he sets off on a long journey home with his companions. On this adventure-filled journey, he encounters a number of mythical creatures such as sirens, a cyclops and sea monsters.
However, it is not only the story of the movie that is epic in scale, but also the cast. Odysseus is played by Matt Damon. Other cast members include superstar Zendaya, "Spider-Man" actor Tom Holland, "Mad Max: Fury Road" star Charlize Theron, "The Batman" actor Robert Pattinson and Anne Hathaway. From July 17, 2026, you will be able to enjoy the action adventure on the big screen.
Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day
A new adventure for Spider-Man awaits us: Tom Holland is already getting his fourth solo film as Peter Parker with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". However, the plot is reportedly set during the events of "Avengers: Doomsday" – we are eager to find out if this will be reflected in the story. According to Tom Holland and director Destin Daniel Cretton, "Brand New Day" will tell a new kind of "Spider-Man" story and be part of a new era.
This time around, "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink is part of the cast. Some reports suggest that Zendaya's character MJ will only play a minor role in "Spider-Man 4". A release date has already been announced: "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will be released on July 31, 2026.
Fast & Furious 11 / Fast X: Part 2
With "Fast X: Part 2", the action extravaganza about Dom Toretto and his crew is moving on to the next round. The movie is said to be the final installment in the "Fast & Furious" series. In addition to Vin Diesel, many other familiar faces are also coming back, including Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs and Jason Statham as Shaw. It is currently uncertain when the epic finale will be released. However, filming is expected to take place in 2025 still, making a release in 2026 or 2027 seem feasible.
Godzilla x Kong 3: Supernova
Godzilla and Kong are returning to the big screen: the next movie after "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" marks the continuation of the MonsterVerse – and this time the movie is called "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova". Little is known about the story so far. Therefore, anything is possible: from the first appearance of Destoroyah to a completely new apocalyptic threat.
But part of the cast has already been confirmed: it features Kaitlyn Dever, known from "The Last of Us", "Fear the Walking Dead" actress Alycia Debnam-Carey, "Stranger Things" star Matthew Modine and "Jurassic Park" veteran Sam Neill. As in the previous installment, Dan Stevens will also be part of the cast as Trapper Beasley. The project already has a release date: "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" is set to hit theaters on April 26, 2027.
