Overview

In 2014, an unexpected group of heroes including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot rose to fame as the renowned Guardians of the Galaxy. Their mission was initiated by Ayesha, leader of the Sovereign race, who sought their help in protecting valuable batteries from an inter-dimensional creature called the Abilisk. The reward for their aid was the return of Gamora's estranged sister, Nebula. However, Rocket's insatiable greed caused a dispute with the Sovereign, resulting in a crash-landing on the planet Berhert.

On Berhert, the Guardians unexpectedly encountered a mysterious figure, later revealed to be Quill's long-lost father, Ego - a formidable Celestial being. Accompanying Ego was his empathic servant, Mantis, who joined forces with the Guardians as they discovered Ego's ulterior motive of persuading Quill to join him on his home planet. In the meantime, Rocket and Groot remained behind to repair their ship and watch over Nebula.

Meanwhile, Ayesha enlisted the aid of exiled Ravager Yondu Udonta to capture the rogue Guardians. However, Yondu's personal connection to Quill forced him to confront a moral dilemma within his crew.

Revealing his god-like powers as a Celestial, Ego unveiled his sinister plan to utilize seedlings to consume planets and expand his dominion throughout the universe. This revelation incited Quill's resistance when he learned that Ego was responsible for his mother's tragic death. Ego began siphoning Quill's energy to activate the seedlings.

The remaining Guardians, accompanied by Mantis, valiantly arrived to rescue Quill, triggering an immense and pivotal battle that would require the utmost sacrifices.
