Is a Groot Film Coming? Vin Diesel Talks About "Guardians of the Galaxy" Spin-Off and Numerous Other Projects
Diesel also provides updates on "Fast X: Part 2" and sequels to "The Last Witch Hunter", "xXx", and more
Vin Diesel is in a chatty mood: in an Instagram post, the Hollywood star goes into great detail and gives an in-depth update on his upcoming film projects. Among other things, he talks about a possible "Guardians of the Galaxy" spin-off and "Fast X: Part 2".
Groot Spin-off
Diesel's most important words for Marvel fans: "Disney wants their Planet X!" This refers to a film about the character Groot from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" series. The movie will be about Groot's return to his home planet. Vin Diesel is the voice actor for the character. He last dubbed Groot in the animated series "I Am Groot" on Disney Plus.
Further Film Projects
The actor also states that he has spoken to the studio Lionsgate about the future of his character Kaulder. He is the protagonist of the 2015 film "The Last Witch Hunter". A new installment of the "xXx" series is also being planned. In the movies, Diesel played the main character Xander Cage.
With "Rock 'em Sock 'em", a so-called testosterone-charged answer to "Barbie" is also in development. Behind the project is toy company Mattel. Diesel also hopes to sit in the director's chair soon: He would like to make a detective film in a New York setting.
Fast X: Part 2 and Riddick 4
First up for the Hollywood star, however, are probably "Riddick 4" and, of course, "Fast X: Part 2". Filming for the grand finale of the action series is set to take place in summer 2025. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" Movies
So we could be in for a spin-off of fan favorite Groot in the future. The character naturally became popular thanks to the three "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, which we would like to look back on here.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
When the first movie in the series was released in 2014, it came as a big surprise to many viewers. The Guardians of the Galaxy were not familiar characters in the Marvel universe, but a group of outsiders who came together to form a team. At the center is Peter Quill / Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), a human who was kidnapped as a child by a group of space pirates after the death of his mother. As an adult treasure hunter, he steals a mysterious orb and becomes embroiled in an intergalactic conflict as a result.
Together with the warrior Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the talking raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper), the tree creature Groot (Vin Diesel) and Drax (Dave Bautista), Star-Lord forms the Guardians team. Their mission: to protect the Orb, which is to be stolen by the dangerous Ronan (Lee Pace) in order to destroy the universe.
James Gunn created a humorous, yet emotional story with this first movie that dealt with themes of friendship and finding a family. The chemistry between the characters was immediately palpable, and the quirky team delighted the audience with their unconventional behavior and humor. The movie's soundtrack deserves special mention, with songs from the 70s and 80s adding to the nostalgic flair and significantly shaping the tone of the film.
The success of the movie was enormous. It managed to win the hearts of viewers and established the Guardians as one of the most popular groups in the MCU.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Three years after the success of the first film, the Guardians returned to the big screen in 2017 in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". This film continued the story of Star-Lord and his companions and took it to a more emotional level.
"Vol. 2" deepens the relationships within the team and deals with topics such as loss, fatherhood and responsibility. A central theme of the film is the definition of family, with the Guardians increasingly seeing themselves as a real family, even if they don't share traditional bonds with each other. Groot, who returns as Baby Groot after the sacrifice in the first movie, also brings an extra dimension to the story with his cuteness. Like the first film, "Vol. 2" also impressed with a mixture of humorous and emotional moments, spectacular action sequences and the soundtrack.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
In 2023, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was finally released in cinemas. This film continues the story and focuses on Rocket's past. The Guardians also have to face a new threat.
Director Gunn manages to combine the humorous and the tragic once again. There are numerous emotional moments involving not only Rocket's journey, but also the relationships between the Guardians as a whole. Some Marvel fans describe "Vol. 3" as one of the most emotional movies in the MCU.
