Box Office: Tom Holland & Zoe Saldana Among the Highest-Grossing Actors of All Time

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Helps Propel Tom Holland Into the Box Office Elite

4 min reading time

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues to climb higher and higher at the box office: The Marvel blockbuster has become one of the most financially successful films of all time. This is also reflected in Tom Holland's box office stats, as he has now risen to become one of the most successful actors at the box office.

Among others, the website ComicBookMovie has already reported that the MCU star has become the most commercially successful actor of all time, surpassing the previous frontrunner, Zoe Saldana.

However, such lists should be taken with a grain of salt. It's not always clear exactly how the calculations are made. Do films featuring cameo appearances by the actor in question count? Were the earnings from re-releases of certain films taken into account? Are the correct figures used for all of the actor's films? Sometimes, different box office websites report slightly different figures for the same film.

Tom Holland's Most Successful Movies

But whether Tom Holland tops the box office charts or not—he is, in any case, one of the most commercially successful actors of all time. Holland naturally owes much of his current success to his role as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. His solo films include "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "Far From Home," "No Way Home," and "Brand New Day." All of these films were huge hits at the box office.

Spider-Man also played a role, of course, in the hugely successful "Avengers" films "Infinity War" and "Endgame." Holland's first appearance in the MCU, however, was neither in a solo film nor in an "Avengers" installment. The actor first appeared as Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War."

In 2026, however, Holland didn't just attract attention as Spider-Man. In Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," the actor portrayed Odysseus's son, Telemachus. And Nolan's epic was also a huge commercial success—recently rising to become Universal's most successful film of all time.

The Most Successful Movies Starring Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana, too, owes her high standing at the box office primarily to her appearances in major franchises. Her role as Neytiri in James Cameron's "Avatar" saga has been particularly defining. The first film in the series is still considered the most commercially successful film of all time. The sequels, "The Way of Water" and, most recently, "Fire and Ash," also grossed massive amounts at the box office. The "Avatar" films are among the most successful productions in cinematic history and account for a significant portion of Saldana's box office total.

But Saldana has also appeared in several highly successful films within the MCU. As Gamora, she was part of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films and also appeared in "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Endgame." This means Saldana has appeared in several films, each of which has surpassed the billion-mark at the global box office.

In addition to her two major franchises, Saldana has also enjoyed success with "Star Trek." As Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, she appeared in three installments of the science fiction series. She has also starred in other productions such as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and Steven Spielberg's "The Terminal."

The Most Successful Movies Starring Scarlett Johansson

According to media reports, Saldana had only recently, at the beginning of the year, surpassed Scarlett Johansson as the most successful actress at the box office. Johansson, too, owes her place among the most commercially successful actors primarily to her long-standing role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

She first appeared as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in "Iron Man 2" and subsequently returned for films including "The Avengers," "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Infinity War," and "Endgame." Johansson finally got her own Marvel film with "Black Widow," which hit theaters in 2021. However, the film failed to match the massive box office success of the major "Avengers" installments.

That said, Johansson has also enjoyed major commercial success outside the MCU. Notably, she starred in "Jurassic World: Rebirth." The blockbuster, released in 2025, became a major global box office hit and is thus one of the films that significantly boosted Johansson's box office total. Other notable projects include "The Jungle Book" and "Sing," in which she provided voice acting. Johansson has also appeared in the action film "Lucy" and Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige."
