New rumors continue to swirl around "Pirates of the Caribbean 6". Among them is the still unresolved question of whether Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Jack Sparrow. Just recently, it was reported that the famous pirate's son would be at the center of the plot (we reported). But now "Pirates of the Caribbean" producer Jerry Bruckheimer has spoken out. His statements remain vague, but suggest that Jack Sparrow's son may not play a role after all. Instead, he hinted that another rumor could come true: the casting of Hollywood star Margot Robbie.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bruckheimer was asked specifically about the speculation surrounding Jack Sparrow's son and a new character played by Margot Robbie. He replied that one of these two rumors was more likely to be true and then confirmed that talks with Robbie were already underway. When asked again by the interviewer, Bruckheimer reiterated: Sparrow's son is unlikely, but Robbie is.

Whether this will actually happen and what role Margot Robbie could play in "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" remains unclear, even after Bruckheimer's statements. However, fans of the actress now have at least one more reason to hope that the "Barbie" star will be part of the successful pirate saga.

Top Gun 3 is moving forward

In the interview, Bruckheimer also briefly commented on the sequel to "Top Gun." Compared to "Pirates of the Caribbean 6," the development of "Top Gun 3" is already a little further along. "Right now, 'Top Gun' is a hair ahead," explained Bruckheimer, who is also the producer responsible for this successful franchise. "We are expecting a script shortly."

As with its predecessor, "Top Gun: Maverick," Christopher McQuarrie is on board as writer. Almost a year ago, he confirmed that he already knew the direction the story would take. Now, it seems that the script is nearing completion. Similar to "Pirates of the Caribbean 6", however, little else is set in stone at this point. It's safe to assume that lead actor Tom Cruise will once again be seen as US Navy pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Whether he will once again be at the center of the plot, however, is another question.

Successful producer Jerry Bruckheimer

What is certain is that Jerry Bruckheimer is responsible for two extremely lucrative blockbuster franchises with "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Top Gun." The two "Top Gun" films grossed a total of $1.8 billion worldwide. The five "Pirates of the Caribbean" films to date have grossed over $4.5 billion combined. And these are by no means the only mega-hits that the now 82-year-old Hollywood producer has to his name in his decades-long career. With other hits such as "Beverly Hills Cop," "Days of Thunder," "Bad Boys," and "Armageddon," he left his mark on action cinema in the 80s and 90s in particular. In the 2000s, as producer of the equally successful "CSI" franchise, he made a lasting impact on the crime series genre.

In addition to commercial success, he has also enjoyed special artistic recognition in recent years. In 2023, as producer of "Top Gun: Maverick," he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture for the first time in his career. Three years later, he will once again receive this honor: at the 2026 Oscars, the Formula 1 drama "F1," which he produced, is also among the ten nominees in the "Best Picture" category.
