Overview
The plot of "Dune: Part Two" begins after the events of the first movie. After the House of Atreides was supposedly destroyed, Paul Atreides finds himself on the run and has joined the Fremen, the natives of the desert planet Arrakis. He has to integrate into their culture and learn their way of life. At the same time, Paul has to learn how to deal with the enormous sandworms of Arrakis. The film focuses on Paul's journey among the Fremen and his growing importance to them. It is also about the relationship between Paul and Chani, a Fremen warrior whose role has been significantly expanded compared to the original book. The movie focuses on Paul's rise within the Fremen and the political tensions in the Dune universe, especially with the Harkonnen.

Background
The production of "Dune: Part Two" is the sequel to Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the science fiction novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Filming for the second part took place from July to December 2022. 30 locations in Jordan, Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates served as a backdrop to authentically depict the desert landscape of Arrakis, with the ancient city of Petra in Jordan and its surroundings playing a central role.
The film's cast brings together numerous returnees such as Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica with prominent newcomers such as Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan. Anya Taylor-Joy can also be seen in a flash-forward as Paul's sister Alia Atreides.
Villeneuve emphasized that Zendaya's character Chani takes on a larger role in the second part and becomes the protagonist alongside Paul. Compared to the literary original, some storylines were streamlined and characters were not included in the film, such as the story of Thufir Hawat. The musical score is once again by Hans Zimmer, who composed the music for the first film and whose soundtrack was released in February and March 2024.
The estimated production budget for the film was 190 million US dollars. The marketing campaign included the release of several trailers in May, June and December 2023. The premiere took place in Mexico City on February 6, 2024, and the film was released in the USA on March 1, 2024.
The reception of the film was overwhelmingly positive, with Steven Spielberg, for example, describing it as one of the most brilliant science fiction films he had ever seen.
