Overview
The plot of the film revolves around former DIA agent Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) , who goes to Sicily in search of stolen money and smashes a drug operation run by a Syrian terrorist militia. Seriously injured, he flees to a small village on the Amalfi Coast, where he is taken in and cared for by the locals. During his recovery, McCall develops sympathy for the villagers, who are being tyrannized by a Neapolitan Camorra clan. He decides to use his skills to take action against the injustice. At the same time, a CIA special unit follows McCall's tracks and those of a large criminal gang after CIA employee Emma Collins (Dakota Fanning) becomes aware of the case thanks to a tip from McCall...

Background
The production was announced in August 2018 by Antoine Fuqua, who expressed his interest in an international setting. In January 2022, the third film was officially confirmed and Denzel Washington returned in the lead role. Dakota Fanning was signed on in June 2022. Principal photography began in October 2022 on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and was later moved to Naples and Rome. The screenplay was written by Richard Wenk.
The film celebrated its cinema premiere on August 31, 2023 in Germany and one day later in the USA.
Trivia: The place called Altamonte in the film is fictional; filming took place in the real locations of Atrani and Minori. Dakota Fanning and Denzel Washington were already in front of the camera together for the 2004 film Man Under Fire.
