Massive release delays at Disney
Affected are among others various MCU titles and Avatar
As Deadline reports, there are massive changes to Disney's theatrical releases due to the WGA strike. Just about all of the MCU titles have been postponed, and the Avatar sequels have also been delayed significantly. At least some titles are finally getting a theatrical release at all. Here is the overview of all new theatrical releases in the US.
New MCU Releases
The release schedule for the upcoming MCU projects has been shaken up significantly: "Deadpool 3" has been brought forward and will now be released on May 3, 2024. "Captain America 4: Brave New World" , on the other hand, has been moved back and will now hit theaters on August 26. The ensemble film "Thunderbolts" is pushed back to Dec. 20, 2024, and "Blade" is even delayed until Feb. 14, 2025. "Fantastic 4" is now slated for May 2, 2025, while the two "Avengers" films, "Kang Dynasty" and"Secret Wars," move to May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
Avatar Delays, Star Wars Releases and more
Fans of "Avatar" will be hit even harder: "Avatar 3" will now arrive a full year later on December 19, 2025, while parts 4 and 5 will be pushed back by 3 years - they will be released on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031.
After all, there are also some release dates for movies that were previously unknown: For example, the "Vaiana" live-action remake starring Dwayne Johnson is scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2025, and Fede Alvarez's new "Alien" film with the working title "Alien: Romulus" on August 16, 2024.
Also announced were 3 release dates for new "Star Wars" films: May 22, 2026, December 18, 2026, as well as December 17, 2027. However, there were no more specific details about them yet.
