Hagrid Actor for the "Harry Potter" Series Reportedly Found
The casting for HBO's series adaptation is progressing further
Fresh casting news from the world of "Harry Potter": As the industry magazines Deadline and Variety unanimously report, the casting of Hagrid for the upcoming "Harry Potter" series is about to happen. The British actor in question is said to be Nick Frost.
Frost is primarily known as a comedy actor. He often works together with Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright, for instance in the horror comedy "Shaun of the Dead" or in "Hot Fuzz".
In recent weeks, Frost has repeatedly been linked to the "Harry Potter" series in rumors. Back on March 20, the actor published a peculiar Instagram post with the words: "It's happening, it's actually happening." Frost also began following his presumed future "Harry Potter" co-stars John Lithgow and Paapa Essiedu.
The good-natured half-giant Hagrid is a central character in the "Harry Potter" film series. He is one of Harry, Hermione and Ron's closest confidants. Hagrid is the gamekeeper at Hogwarts and teaches "Care of Magical Creatures" at the school.
In the "Harry Potter" movies, Hagrid was played by Robbie Coltrane, who sadly has since passed away. Now, Nick Frost will presumably follow in the half-giant's big footsteps. Visually, the casting seems to make sense. In some of his films and series, the actor has already been seen with a massive beard.
What is Already Known About the "Harry Potter" Series?
The casting of John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore has already been confirmed. It is also very likely that we will see Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall.
The new "Harry Potter" series on the renowned US channel HBO will adapt the seven books by J.K. Rowling in one season each. Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner and holds creative responsibility. She has already gained fantasy experience as a writer for "His Dark Materials". It is also known that Mark Mylod is on board as director. He has already directed several episodes of top-class HBO series such as "Game of Thrones" and "Succession".
With the probable casting of Nick Frost, the production of the series continues to progress. It can be assumed that more information will gradually be announced in the coming weeks. There is no release date yet, but it is likely that the first season won't premiere until late 2026 or even 2027 at the earliest.
The Most Popular Movies with Nick Frost
Nick Frost is best known for his humorous roles and his close collaboration with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright. The British actor and comedian has made a name for himself in the film landscape, particularly through his involvement in a number of cult classics.
Shaun of the Dead
This zombie film, directed by Edgar Wright, is considered one of the best British horror comedies. In his most famous role, Nick Frost plays Shaun's best friend, who fights to survive with him in an abandoned pub. The mixture of black humor and zombies has made "Shaun of the Dead" a cult film.
Hot Fuzz
In this action-packed thriller, also directed by Edgar Wright and co-starring Simon Pegg, Frost plays Danny, a policeman who, together with Pegg's character, Nicholas Angel, solves a series of mysterious crimes in a small, idyllic village. "Hot Fuzz" is known for its clever humor and its homage to action movies of the 80s and 90s.
The World's End
"The World's End" is the third part of the "Cornetto Trilogy", which also includes "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz". The trio of Wright, Pegg and Frost are once again behind the film. As part of a group of friends who want to relive their youth, Pegg and Frost's characters find themselves in an unusual and dangerous situation. The movie combines sci-fi and comedy elements.
Paul
In this sci-fi comedy, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg play two British nerds who encounter an alien named Paul in the USA. "Paul", directed by Greg Mottola, is a mixture of a road movie and alien comedy. Frost once again plays the role of a lovable but often naive character who goes on the adventure together with Pegg.
