Now it's official: Disney is working on a live-action adaptation of its animated hit "Tangled".

As Deadline reports, Michael Gracey is in talks to direct the film. He has already directed a number of musicals such as "The Greatest Showman" and the Robbie Williams biopic "Better Man".

The upcoming live-action version of "Tangled" is expected to be based heavily on the original, although the specific plot details are still under wraps. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will once again be responsible for the screenplay. There is currently no information on the cast. In August last year, though, there were initial rumors that Florence Pugh could take on the role of Rapunzel. However, it is not yet known whether Pugh herself is even interested in the role. It also remains uncertain if and when the movie will be released.

"Tangled" kicked off a new era of Disney princesses in 2010 and was a box office hit with global box office earnings of nearly 600 million dollars. But in this case, too, many fans will certainly be wondering: Is a live-action adaptation really necessary?
