The end is in sight: Netflix has announced that the fifth season of "The Witcher" will be the last one.

According to Netflix, the last two seasons will be filmed back-to-back. Season 4 is said to already be in production – this time Liam Hemsworth will take on the role of Geralt of Rivia.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says she is thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski's books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. In terms of content, the two remaining seasons will be based on the novels "Baptism of Fire", "The Tower of the Swallow" and "The Lady of the Lake".

Nevertheless, "The Witcher" series is facing massive challenges: On the one hand, many fans were not particularly impressed with the third season, and on the other, the departure of lead actor Henry Cavill is also expected to have an adverse effect. Not only was he a perfect choice for the role of the Witcher, he was also a big fan and expert on the original. Initial speculation pointed to the fact that Cavill was anything but happy with the direction the fantasy series was taking.

Now it's up to Liam Hemsworth to breathe new life into the role. We are curious to see how he will do!
