Alien Earth: Start Date and New Images from the Alien Series Released
The "Alien: Earth" trailer likely isn't far off either
After "Alien: Romulus" was last seen in cinemas in 2024, a series from the "Alien" franchise will be released on Hulu and FX in 2025. The industry portal Variety, among others, is now reporting a start date for the horror series. We also get some new images.
Plot
There is already some information about the plot. The series is called "Alien: Earth" and will take place two years before the first "Alien" film. A mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth – an event that changes everything. A young woman and a group of soldiers encounter terrifying, predatory creatures that pose an unprecedented threat.
As they search for survivors, they are plunged into a nightmare. In the fight for survival, they must make a decision that could change the fate of the Earth forever.
Cast and crew
"Alien" fans of course know what kind of creature it is: The Xenomorph is one of the most iconic monsters in movie history. The cast includes leading actress Sydney Chandler, "Andor" actor Alex Lawther and "The Mandalorian" actor Timothy Olyphant.
The series was developed by "Fargo" mastermind Noah Hawley. Hawley also created the "X-Men" series "Legion". Ridley Scott is also involved as a producer. The master director directed the first "Alien" film as well as the prequels "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant", which were released decades later.
Trailer and release date
After some teasers have already been shown, the trailer should not be long in coming. The release of the images also suggests this. But first we have finally received the start date. "Alien: Earth" will reach us on August 12, 2025 on Hulu and FX. Two episodes will be released at the premiere, with the remaining six following weekly. You can find all further information about the series in our big movie preview! You can also stream all the films in the "Alien" series on Hulu – including "Alien: Romulus".

The significance of the "Alien" series
The "Alien" franchise is one of the most influential series in the history of the science fiction and horror genre. Since Ridley Scott's groundbreaking original film "Alien" from 1979, the series has not only stood out for its visual and narrative quality, but also for its cultural and social relevance. One thing is certain: "Alien" has set standards.
Sci-fi horror
The first "Alien" film was a special form of horror. Ridley Scott merged the claustrophobic horror of the classic monster movie with the aesthetics of futuristic science fiction cinema. Unlike the clean, technological visions of the sci-fi films of the time, "Alien" showed a dirty, industrialized universe. The Nostromo – the protagonists' spaceship – is not a place of hope. Rather, the spaceship is a cold, impersonal workspace that does not prevent the horror, but intensifies it.
Ripley: an iconic character
One of the most notable aspects of the franchise is the character of Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver. Ripley became one of the first female action heroes in film history – strong, smart, survivable, but never clichéd or overdrawn. As an action heroine, she was most notably seen in the first sequel "Aliens" by "Avatar" director James Cameron.
Xenomorph
The creature designed by H.R. Giger is considered one of the most terrifying monsters in film history. Its biomechanical appearance and parasitic mode of reproduction make the creature a symbol of deep-rooted fears: of losing control and of the alien in one's own body.
Social criticism and criticism of capitalism
In the world of "Alien", the real monsters are not only the extraterrestrial creatures, but also the corporations that want to exploit them. The motto is usually: The lives of the crew are expendable as long as profit beckons. This criticism permeates the entire franchise and raises questions about the ethical treatment of science, capital and power.
Visual innovation and cinematic influence
The visual design of the franchise was always ahead of its time. Whether it was Giger's nightmare aesthetic, the gloomy lighting or the innovative use of practical effects – "Alien" shaped science fiction cinema like almost no other film. It influenced numerous later films, in particular "The Thing" and "Event Horizon".
Philosophy
With "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant", director Ridley Scott shifted the focus to metaphysical questions: Where do we come from? What is creation? What does it mean to be human in a world of artificial intelligence and genetic manipulation? However, the prequels were received quite controversially. Not everyone was happy with the new direction.
The "Alien" franchise is more than just a series of horror films set in outer space. It is a cultural phenomenon that interweaves fear, technology, power and existence. It has inspired generations of filmmakers – and there is no end in sight to the franchise. Director Fede Alvarez is already planning a sequel to "Alien: Romulus". But first, of course, we are eagerly awaiting "Alien: Earth".
