Background
The idea for “F1” came from Joseph Kosinski and Lewis Hamilton. Back in 2013, Kosinski and Brad Pitt made an unsuccessful attempt to make a racing film called “Go Like Hell”. Instead, Kosinski devoted himself to “Top Gun: Maverick” and came into contact with Lewis Hamilton. Apple secured the filming rights at the beginning of 2022 for 130 to 140 million US dollars. As producer, Lewis Hamilton ensured the realistic portrayal of racing and the diversity of the cast and production members.
In addition to Brad Pitt, the cast also includes Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem. Filming began in July 2023, largely without CGI and instead relying on real footage of Formula 1 races. The “eleventh” racing team APXGP was founded for the film. The film music is composed by Hans Zimmer.
