Godzilla x Kong Supernova: The Appearance of Space Godzilla
Godzilla and Kong could face a cosmic threat
Attention Monsterverse fans! The upcoming blockbuster "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" continues to take shape. Godzilla and Kong's new enemy is pretty much certain: We're talking about Space Godzilla!
Space Godzilla is best known for his appearance in the Japanese "Godzilla" films. There he is a particularly dangerous variation of Godzilla. His origins are cosmic: Godzilla's cells were cast into space, fell into a black hole, reemerged from a white hole, and were exposed to the energy of a supernova, resulting in their transformation into a powerful, crystal-covered monster with supernatural abilities.
Several media outlets are now reporting that there is a clear reference to the appearance of Space Godzilla in a report by the Writers Guild of America. Probably under an alias, the film entry for "Supernova" is supplemented by a specific piece of information. This reads: "Based on the characters 'Godzilla' and 'Space Godzilla,' owned and created by ToHo". ToHo is the studio behind the Japanese "Godzilla" movies.
The first indications of Space Godzilla's appearance emerged a few months ago. Actor Matthew Modine shared both the Japanese poster for "Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla" and a scene from the film via Instagram. However, fans will have to wait a while longer before the new Monsterverse film sees the light of day. "Supernova" can be seen in cinemas from March 26, 2027. A first teaser for the movie has already been released.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova cast
Most of the cast members are already known. These include Matthew Modine, lead actor from "Full Metal Jacket" and also known as Eleven's "Papa" in "Stranger Things". In "Supernova" he plays a general. Also joining the cast is Kaitlyn Dever, who was last seen as Abby in the second season of "The Last of Us". Also new to the cast are "Sinners" actors Jack O'Connell and Delroy Lindo. Alycia Debnam-Carey, known from "Fear the Walking Dead" and "The 100", also takes on a role. We can expect the return of Dan Stevens as trapper Beasley. And "Jurassic Park" icon Sam Neill also joins the Monsterverse.
The film is directed by Grant Sputore ("I Am Mother"). The somewhat better-known name, however, is screenwriter Dave Callaham. He has been involved in the scripts of numerous well-known productions, including "The Expendables", "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" and 2014's "Godzilla". His involvement in the popular animated hit "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" in particular should give many fans cause for optimism.

Further Monsterverse projects
As Apple TV officially announced, a prequel series to "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is also currently in development. The plot takes us back to the time of the Cold War. The focus is on the young Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell. The colonel is sent on a top secret mission in 1984: He is to prevent the Soviet Union from releasing a new, extremely dangerous titan. This would have the potential not only to significantly change the course of the Cold War, but also could destroy the United States.
But there are more Apple TV series from the Monsterverse to come. First, however, the second season of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" awaits us on February 27, 2026.

Further Godzilla projects
While the American monsterverse has enjoyed great cinematic success worldwide with films such as "Godzilla vs. Kong", the Japanese home of the cult monster has also made an impressive comeback in recent years. With "Shin Godzilla" and "Godzilla Minus One", two different but equally celebrated reinterpretations of the iconic atomic lizard were created.
One thing is already certain: "Godzilla Minus One" will be continued. The sequel is called "Godzilla Minus Zero" and was officially announced as part of "Godzilla Day 2025". At the same time, the official logo for the film was also published on social media. Filming will take place in Norway and New Zealand, among other places. However, details about the cast or the plot are not yet available. Creatively, Toho continues to rely on continuity: the same team is behind "Godzilla Minus Zero" as for its predecessor. Takashi Yamazaki is once again taking on responsibility as director and screenwriter.
