Finally another film from Christopher Nolan: "The Odyssey", the master director's new mythical action epic, will be released in 2026. So far, there have only been a few glimpses of the project – but that has now changed. Over the last few days, Empire magazine has delivered some fresh images that give us a first impression of Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and co.

We also find out which roles will be played by which stars. For example, we now know for certain that Zendaya will be seen as the goddess of wisdom Athena. For the first time, we can now also take a look at her character. She can be seen alongside Matt Damon's Odysseus. An image of "The Batman" actor Robert Pattinson has also been shared for the first time. He is to play the antagonist Antinous. In the story, he is after Odysseus' wife Penelope.

As has long been suspected, Penelope will be played by Hollywood star Anne Hathaway. A first image shows her together with Mia Goth, who plays Penelope's maid Melantho. Further images show John Leguizamo as Eumaeus. We also get several impressions of Odysseus.

Meanwhile, another photo shows soldiers in action. There is also a fresh image of Tom Holland's Telemachus. The son of Odysseus was already the focus of the first teaser for "The Odyssey", which has not yet been released.

But now all signs point to the fact that the trailer could be coming soon! Insiders are reporting a cinema release before "Avatar 3: Fire And Ash". The blockbuster will be released in cinemas on December 19. But it could be even sooner: the publication of numerous images often indicates an upcoming trailer release. As soon as the trailer is available, you can of course find it on our YouTube channel or in the KinoCheck app! "The Odyssey" can be seen in cinemas from July 17, 2026.

What happens in the first The Odyssey teaser

The first teaser shown in cinemas this summer has not been released, but we do know what can be seen in it. The teaser begins with atmospheric landscape shots of the sea and coast. The following words are heard:

"Darkness. Zeus' law smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a king since my master died. He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then, somehow... somehow he won it."

A destroyed wooden horse, presumably the iconic Trojan horse, also appears alongside the images of the beach and ocean – both by day and by night. The narrator's voice could belong to John Leguizamo's character Eumaeus.

The teaser then shows Holland's Telemachus and Jon Bernthal at a table, illuminated by firelight. Odysseus' son goes in search of his father after the end of the Trojan War. He talks about this with Bernthal's character, who is apparently supposed to accompany him on his journey. The latter emphasizes that he has not heard from Odysseus since the end of the war. When Telemachos follows up, he replies:

"Interested in rumor, huh? Gossip. Who has a story about Odysseus, huh? You? You have a story? Some say he's rich or some say he's poor. Some say he perished. Some say he's imprisoned. What say you?"

At the same time, other short scenes can be seen, including night-time shots of soldiers in a city. Finally, the teaser reveals the whereabouts of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon: the king of Ithaca is floating on a few wooden planks in the middle of the sea. The nearly 80-second teaser is very atmospheric and does exactly what it's meant to: Whet your appetite for more.

When it comes to Christopher Nolan, it's hardly surprising that the first footage of "The Odyssey" was shown exclusively in theaters. The director is a passionate advocate of cinema and develops his films specifically for the big screen. He took a similar approach with his last blockbuster "Oppenheimer". Here, too, the first teaser was initially screened in theaters only. It remains unclear whether this teaser for "The Odyssey" will be released soon. We rather expect a new trailer.
