For a long time, there was little news about the "Star Wars" series "Ahsoka," but now we finally have a concrete update: During its Upfront event, Disney revealed the release window for the second season! At the same time, the first footage from the sequel was shown at the event.

First Footage Revealed

This gave viewers a first glimpse into the upcoming season – including space battles and lightsaber duels. Lead actress Rosario Dawson announced that "the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher." As soon as the first trailer is available, you'll of course find it in the KinoCheck app and on our YouTube channel.

The Cast of Ahsoka Season 2

In addition to Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, numerous other cast members are returning. This includes Hayden Christensen, who will once again portray Ahsoka's former Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker. Also on board are Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.

However, one change is inevitable: the role of Baylan Skoll has been recast. In Season 1, the character was portrayed by Ray Stevenson, who sadly passed away in 2023. Skoll will now be played by "Game of Thrones" actor Rory McCann. Series creator and Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni remains at the helm of the production.

When will Ahsoka Season 2 be released?

After Season 1 premiered in 2023, a release window for Season 2 has now been announced following a long wait. It is set to launch on Disney+ in early 2027. That means there will be roughly three and a half years between the two seasons. We will, of course, keep you updated on the exact release date.

For now, "Star Wars" fans can catch two old acquaintances of Ahsoka Tano on the big screen: "The Mandalorian and Grogu" hits theaters on May 22, 2026! The film not only marks the saga's return to the big screen after a several-year hiatus but also continues the story of Din Djarin and Grogu ("Baby Yoda"). You can watch the latest trailer here!

What "Ahsoka" Is About

With "Ahsoka," Lucasfilm continues the story of a character fans already know from the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels." The focus is on the former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, who was once a student of Anakin Skywalker. The character has been one of the most popular in modern "Star Wars" history for years and evolved from an initially controversial supporting character into a true fan favorite. Ahsoka gained enormous popularity through her development in the animated series and her later live-action portrayal by Rosario Dawson.

The first season of "Ahsoka" picked up where the events of "Star Wars Rebels" left off. The focus was on the search for Ezra Bridger and the return of the feared Grand Admiral Thrawn, who could play a central role in the so-called "Mandoverse" in the future. Especially for longtime fans, the series offers numerous connections to earlier "Star Wars" stories and brings many familiar characters back in live-action form for the first time.

Ahsoka in the Mandoverse

At the same time, "Ahsoka" is closely connected to other current "Star Wars" series. Above all, "The Mandalorian" forms the foundation of the modern "Star Wars" series universe, the "Mandoverse." Rosario Dawson already made her debut as Ahsoka Tano in "The Mandalorian." "The Book of Boba Fett" continued the story surrounding Din Djarin and Grogu and created additional connections to "Ahsoka." Dawson also appeared in an episode of this series.

Ahsoka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels

Anyone who wants to understand the complete backstory should also check out the animated series "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels." "Rebels" in particular serves as a prequel to "Ahsoka," as many main characters and storylines were directly carried over. These include, among others, Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and of course Thrawn.

With Season 2, the interconnected "Star Wars" universe on Disney+ is set to expand further. Fans can look forward to more adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
