"The White Lotus" is going into the next round – and the cast already has a lot to offer! As the industry magazine Deadline reports, Oscar winner Helena Bonham Carter is in negotiations for a leading role in season 4.

Although the current status of the negotiations has not yet been officially confirmed, sources say that exclusive talks are already taking place between the actress and HBO. Should an agreement be reached, Bonham Carter would be the first officially announced cast member of the fourth season.

Last month, HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed that casting for the new season had already begun. As usual with "The White Lotus", however, the broadcaster is still keeping a low profile when it comes to specific details about the plot. What is certain, however, is that the new season will be set in France. According to current plans, filming could start in spring 2026. Which hotels will serve as the backdrop for the fictional luxury resort "White Lotus" is currently still open.

Since its launch in 2021, "The White Lotus" has become a real series phenomenon and is one of HBO's biggest successes in recent years. In total, the series has been nominated for the Emmy 66 times and has won 16 awards.

Helena Bonham Carter: The most famous film projects of an extraordinary actress

Helena Bonham Carter is one of the most distinctive personalities in international film. For more than four decades, she has thrilled audiences and critics alike with her versatility, her courage to take on unusual roles and her unmistakable screen presence. Hardly any other actress moves as effortlessly between arthouse cinema, big blockbusters and eccentric character studies as she does.

The breakthrough in costume drama

Helena Bonham Carter celebrated her international breakthrough with the film "A Room with a View" (1985). In the literary adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel, she played the young Lucy Honeychurch, a woman caught between social expectations and personal freedom. The success of the film made the then 19-year-old famous overnight and established her as a permanent fixture in British cinema.

In the years that followed, Bonham Carter was frequently seen in historical dramas. Films such as "Lady Jane" (1986) or the literary adaptation "Hamlet" cemented her image as the ideal cast for elegant, sensitive female characters in classic costume dramas. But it was precisely this label that she increasingly began to question.

The radical image change with "Fight Club"

A decisive turning point in her career was marked by "Fight Club" (1999) by David Fincher. As the self-destructive, cynical and emotionally vulnerable Marla Singer, Bonham Carter showed a completely new side. The role radically broke with her previous image and made her an icon of modern cinema. "Fight Club" became a cult film and brought her worldwide recognition beyond British period drama.

The creative symbiosis with Tim Burton

A formative chapter in her film career is her long-standing collaboration with director Tim Burton. Together they created a series of visually and emotionally impressive films. In "Big Fish" (2003), Bonham Carter played several versions of the same character, while in "Corpse Bride" (2005) she lent her voice to the melancholy dead bride Emily.

Her portrayal of the Red Queen in "Alice in Wonderland" (2010) became particularly iconic. With her oversized head, choleric temperament and tragic depth, she created one of the most memorable fantasy characters of recent years. Films such as "Planet of the Apes" (2001) , "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005) and "Dark Shadows" (2012) also benefited from her flamboyant presence.

One of the greatest villains in film history: Bellatrix Lestrange

A milestone in her career was the role of Bellatrix Lestrange in the "Harry Potter" franchise. From "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2007) onwards, Bonham Carter embodied the fanatical Death Eater with manic intensity. Her performance was wild, unpredictable and terrifying – and made Bellatrix one of the most impressive villains in the entire series. To this day, this role is considered one of her best-known and most popular performances.

Recognition through awards and Oscar nominations

In addition to fantasy and blockbusters, Bonham Carter has repeatedly impressed in challenging dramas. She received her first Oscar nomination for "The Wings of the Dove" (1997). A second followed for "The King's Speech" (2010), in which she appeared as Queen Elizabeth, later Queen Mum. With subtle warmth and dry humor, she lent the historical figure great humanity.

Singing, humor and late career highlights

She also proved her talent in musicals. In "Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street" (2007), she played the tragic Mrs. Lovett and was convincing both as an actress and a singer. In recent years, she has also appeared in humorous and modern roles, such as in "Ocean's 8" (2018) or as an eccentric mother figure in "Enola Holmes" (2020).

A career beyond all conventions

Helena Bonham Carter has never allowed herself to be pinned down to a specific role model. Her film projects are characterized by courage, individuality and emotional depth. Whether historical queen, dark villainess or quirky outsider – she gives each character an unmistakable signature. It is precisely this non-conformity that makes her one of the most fascinating actresses of her generation.
