Tom Holland injured! Filming of Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day has been interrupted
Holland suffered a concussion
Production on "Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day" is at a standstill: lead actor Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion during filming at Pinewood Studios last Friday. According to Deadline, the actor was taken to hospital and examined there.
According to production circles, Holland sustained the injury during a failed stunt. No other crew members or actors were affected. Production has been suspended for a week and is scheduled to resume on September 29. Until then, Holland is concentrating on his recovery.
"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously enjoyed success with "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" for Marvel Studios. The film is being produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.
In addition to Holland in the lead role, Zendaya also returns as MJ. Sadie Sink and "The Bear" star Liza Colón-Zayas join the cast in previously undisclosed roles. Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal will also appear. As Deadline reports, Marvin Jones III is now also part of the cast of the Marvel blockbuster in the role of Tombstone. "Spider-Man 4" will still be released in cinemas on 31.07.2026.

Why Tom Holland is so popular as Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016), Tom Holland has taken audiences by storm. In just a few years, he has become a fan favorite and perhaps the most popular incarnation of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. But why is it that Holland is so popular – both with long-standing Marvel fans and with a younger audience? The reasons are manifold and can be summarized in several aspects.
Authentic portrayal of Peter Parker
One of the main reasons for Holland's success is his credibility as a teenager. While his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were also convincing Spider-Mans, Holland played the character at an age that was much closer to the comic book template. At just 19 years old when shooting his first Marvel film, he brought a youthful energy and naivety to the screen that perfectly suits Peter Parker.
His portrayal conveys that Spider-Man is not just a hero in tights, but also a schoolboy who has to do his homework, cultivate friendships and experience first love. This down-to-earth attitude ensures that viewers can easily identify with him.
Humor and charm
Spider-Man has always been known for his quick-wittedness and easy banter in battle. Tom Holland embodies this humorous aspect of the character with ease. His dialog is often witty without seeming forced, giving the action scenes a lightness that makes the character unique. In addition, Holland has a natural charm that is evident both in interviews and when interacting with fans. He comes across as modest, approachable and authentic – qualities that also make him popular outside of his role.

Physical presence and stunt skills
One point that is often overlooked is Holland's outstanding physical fitness. As a former gymnast and dancer, he has mastered acrobatic moves that perfectly match Spider-Man's iconic jumps and climbing maneuvers. He performs many of the stunts himself, which gives the action scenes added authenticity.
This makes his movements not only more believable, but also more dynamic than those of some other superheroes. Viewers get the feeling that this Spider-Man could actually swing through New York like this.
Chemistry with the ensemble
Another success factor is Holland's chemistry with his co-stars. His relationship with Zendaya in particular, who plays MJ in the films, is celebrated by fans. Their interactions come across as honest, charming and awkward – exactly what you'd expect from teenage sweethearts. Working with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) also shows that Holland can handle both humorous and emotional scenes on par with seasoned actors. This gives his Spider-Man a strong presence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Emotional depth
Despite his humor and youthful demeanor, Holland manages to convincingly portray the tragic elements of Peter Parker's story. In films such as "Spider-Man: No Way Home", he shows that his Spider-Man is not just a laid-back hero, but also struggles with loss, responsibility and inner conflict. The scenes in which he struggles with the consequences of his decisions are particularly touching – an essential facet of the character that Holland embodies with great empathy.
Closeness to the fans
Tom Holland has managed to build a close bond with his fans via social media and public appearances. His often unintentional spoilers during press interviews have become cult and make him even more likeable for many. He doesn't act like an untouchable star, but like someone who is enthusiastic about the Marvel universe himself – almost as if he were one of us.
Conclusion
Tom Holland combines everything that has made Spider-Man one of the world's most popular superheroes for decades: down-to-earthness, humor, tragedy and acrobatic action. But he also brings something that is difficult to put into words – a youthful authenticity and natural likeability that makes him unique both on and off the screen.
His version of Spider-Man is not just a hero, but also a completely normal boy who makes mistakes, learns and still gets back up again and again. This is exactly what makes him so tangible for millions of fans worldwide – and explains why Tom Holland is so popular as Spider-Man.
