Carrie Series: New Images Revealed from Prime Video's Adaptation of Stephen King's Classic Novel
Showrunner Mike Flanagan Is Planning a Surprising New Approach
New images from Amazon Prime Video's "Carrie" series! As has been known for some time, horror expert Mike Flanagan is planning a reimagining of Stephen King's cult novel. A whole batch of first-look images has now been released. At the same time, Flanagan revealed a surprising approach to his adaptation in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Starting with the second episode, the series will begin each episode with "a different, unique story of a different woman, somewhere else in the world and in time, coming to terms with their own abilities." Over the course of the first season, the show will explore how Carrie is connected to these other characters.
The Reimagining of Carrie
Flanagan also emphasized that his adaptation is otherwise set in the present day.
"The themes that [Stephen King] was talking about half a century ago of kindness versus cruelty, of empathy and bullying, and violence at school have become even more relevant today than he could have contemplated because of our relationship to technology and the degree to which violence encroaches on our high schoolers, especially in the United States. So that meant we had an opportunity to tell a story about a modern teenage experience that could use the seeds of these characters King created 50 years ago, but express them completely differently."
Flanagan has not yet revealed further details about the planned changes in this reinterpretation. However, he explains his approach by noting, among other things, that cult director Brian De Palma had already produced a faithful adaptation in the 70s. And the story was adapted for the screen once again in 2013.
"So for me, this was never going to be a straight adaptation. The only way to approach it was to build something new out of the ingredients of 'Carrie'. Otherwise, there's really no purpose in trying to retread ground that's been so beautifully walked before."
Here's what the series is about
The official plot synopsis for the reimagining has already been announced: Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father's sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence. Here's a glimpse of Summer Howell as Carrie:
When will the first trailer be released?
The release of multiple images is often a strong indication that the first trailer isn't far away. We might see it at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Amazon has already announced a panel there, where the cast and crew of "Carrie" will be introduced. A first look and a special announcement have been promised for the panel, so we can hope for a first teaser or trailer. As soon as it's available, you'll of course find the trailer in the KinoCheck app and on our YouTube channel.
When will Carrie be released on Prime Video?
However, we'll need to be patient a little longer until the series premieres. "Carrie" is set to premiere on Prime Video in fall 2026. The first season will consist of eight episodes. In addition to Howell ("Night of the Reaper") and Sloyan ("Midnight Mass"), the rest of the cast for the adaptation has also been revealed: The cast includes Siena Agudong ("Resident Evil") as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton ("Fire Country") as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Tota as Tina, Arthur Conti ("Beetlejuice Beetlejuice") as Billy, Thalia Dudek ("The Running Man") as Emaline, Amber Midthunder ("Prey") as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard ("Scream,""Scooby-Doo") as Principal Grayle.
Stephen King's First Novel: A Horror Classic
Stephen King's novel "Carrie" was published in 1974 and marked the beginning of the bestselling author's extraordinary career. The story centers on the shy outsider Carrie White, who suffers under the strict upbringing of her fanatically religious mother and is regularly bullied at school.
When Carrie discovers she has telekinetic powers, the story builds toward one of the most famous and shocking finales in horror literature. The novel is still considered a modern classic today and has been adapted for film several times. Brian De Palma's 1976 adaptation, starring Sissy Spacek, was particularly acclaimed.
Horror Specialist Mike Flanagan
