After years of waiting, the time has finally come: production of "The Batman 2" is getting underway! Matt Reeves reportedly plans to start filming in London on May 29. Most of the leading roles have already been cast – but one important character is still missing: Christopher Dent. According to World of Reel, Daniel Craig is now in talks for the role.

If Craig turns down the offer, Liam Neeson is considered a possible replacement candidate. He is already very familiar with the Batman universe. In 2005, he played Ra's al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins". Originally, the role of Christopher Dent was reportedly offered to Brad Pitt, who turned it down. Stellan Skarsgård, recently nominated for an Oscar for his work in "Sentimental Value", also decided against it.

But even aside from Daniel Craig's involvement, the cast of the sequel is definitely impressive. In addition to lead actor Robert Pattinson as Batman, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Barry Keoghan as the Joker are also set to appear. Particularly exciting is the casting of Johansson as Gilda Dent. The character plays a central role in the famous comic "Batman: The Long Halloween" – and is ultimately revealed to be the mysterious Holiday Killer.

Director Matt Reeves had previously hinted that the plot of "The Batman 2" would be heavily influenced by a serial killer. At the same time, the antagonist is said to be a character who has never appeared in a live-action film in the Batman series before.

If the connection to "The Long Halloween" is confirmed, the story could once again tell a dark crime story in the style of a noir thriller. The current theatrical release date also fits like a glove: "The Batman 2" is scheduled to be released on 1 October, 2027.

Daniel Craig's most famous films: From James Bond to underrated cult classics

British actor Daniel Craig is one of the most influential film stars of the last two decades. He became known worldwide primarily for his portrayal of the famous secret agent James Bond, but his career encompasses much more than just the legendary spy character. Craig has acted in a wide variety of genres, from action films to crime thrillers to black comedies. Some of his films have become genuine blockbusters, while others have developed into insider tips and cult films. A look at his most famous works shows just how versatile the British actor really is.

The international breakthrough: Casino Royale

The film that finally made Daniel Craig a global star was 2006's "Casino Royale". This film completely relaunched the Bond series and was staged in a much more realistic way than before. When Craig was first introduced as James Bond, many fans were skeptical. He seemed rougher and less dapper than his predecessors such as Pierce Brosnan or Sean Connery. But it was precisely this approach that made the film so successful.

Casino Royale tells the story of a young, inexperienced 007 agent who must defeat terrorist financier Le Chiffre in a high-stakes poker game. The film combines spectacular action with emotional moments and is now considered one of the best films in the entire Bond series.

Skyfall: A modern classic in the Bond series

Another highlight of Craig's Bond era is "Skyfall" from 2012. It was directed by Sam Mendes, who gave the film a particularly stylish and atmospheric staging. In this film, the past of the British secret service and its head M, played by Judi Dench, becomes the central theme. Former agent Raoul Silva, played by Javier Bardem, launches a personal vendetta against MI6. Skyfall was not only acclaimed by critics, but also became the most financially successful Bond film of its time, grossing over a billion dollars worldwide.

Farewell to 007: No Time to Die

In 2021, Daniel Craig bid farewell to the role of James Bond in "No Time to Die". The film forms the emotional conclusion to the story that began with Casino Royale. In the plot, Bond is initially living in retirement but is drawn back into a dangerous mission. The mysterious adversary Lyutsifer Safin, played by Rami Malek, plans a global catastrophe using deadly biotechnology. The film was particularly praised for its emotional approach and is considered an unusually personal Bond film.

Layer Cake: The gangster film that changed everything

Before Daniel Craig became the world-famous James Bond, he played one of his most important roles in the 2004 British gangster film "Layer Cake". In the film, Craig plays an unnamed drug dealer who actually wants to get out of the criminal business. But before he can retire, his boss involves him in a series of complicated and dangerous assignments.

The film was directed by Matthew Vaughn and impressed audiences with its clever storytelling, dark humor, and realistic view of the London underworld. Many critics see Layer Cake as the film that first showed Hollywood that Daniel Craig had what it takes to be a big action star.

Knives Out: A new audience favorite

After leaving Bond behind, Craig enjoyed another major success – this time in the crime genre. In 2019's "Knives Out", he plays the eccentric private detective Benoit Blanc. Rian Johnson's film tells the story of a mysterious murder within a wealthy family. Blanc is hired to uncover the truth behind the death of a famous crime writer. Craig surprised audiences with a completely new acting style: his Southern accent, dry humor, and idiosyncratic personality immediately made the character a fan favorite.

Logan Lucky: Craig's most humorous role

One of the most unusual roles in Craig's career can be found in the 2017 film "Logan Lucky". In Steven Soderbergh's crime comedy, Craig plays the eccentric safe cracker Joe Bang. The story follows two brothers who plan a spectacular robbery during a NASCAR race. To carry out their plan, they break Joe Bang out of prison.

Here, Craig shows a completely different side to his talent: flamboyant, humorous, and with a distinctly exaggerated Southern attitude. Many viewers were surprised at how much fun Craig had in this roleand how well comedic characters suit him.

Other notable films

Outside of these big blockbusters, Daniel Craig has also played a number of notable roles. In the science fiction film "Cowboys & Aliens" (2011), he appeared alongside Harrison Ford in an unusual mix of western and alien invasion. In the thriller "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (2011), the film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's bestseller, Craig played journalist Mikael Blomkvist. David Fincher's dark film was praised for its atmosphere and intense performances.

Conclusion

Throughout his career, Daniel Craig has proven that he is much more than just the famous secret agent James Bond. While his Bond era remains a central part of his filmography, films such as Layer Cake, Knives Out, and Logan Lucky demonstrate his versatility as an actor. Whether as a charismatic detective, a clever gangster, or an eccentric safe cracker, Craig always brings a special intensity and presence to the screen. It is precisely this mixture of seriousness, charisma, and occasional humor that has made him one of the most interesting actors of his generation.
