Fans of the cult comedy "Grown Ups" have reason to celebrate: We finally have confirmation! "Grown Ups 3" is coming! The sequel is officially in development at Netflix. The streaming service also revealed the director and the writing team for the sequel. And there's already news about the cast as well!

As with the previous films, Adam Sandler is once again working on the script. He's teaming up with his longtime creative partner Tim Herlihy. The writing duo has already brought "Grown Ups 2" and other Sandler films to life. Kyle Newacheck, who most recently directed Sandler's "Happy Gilmore 2," will take the helm.

What is Grown Ups 3 about?

Exact plot details have not yet been officially confirmed. The industry portal Deadline initially reported that the new adventure would take the friends to Europe. However, according to Empire, this information was later removed from the Deadline article for unknown reasons. So it remains to be seen whether "Grown Ups 3" is actually set in Europe—and exactly what awaits us in the sequel.

The cast of Grown Ups 3

Various media outlets, such as Empire and Deadline, report that Part 3 is set to "reunite all of the major players from the original films". This includes Adam Sandler as Lenny, Kevin James as Eric, Chris Rock as Kurt, and David Spade as Marcus. Rob Schneider is also expected to return after missing out on "Grown Ups 2."

Empire also reports that the actresses playing their respective partners are expected to be on board as well. This notably includes Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph, among others. It's important to note, however, that none of the cast members have been officially confirmed yet. But given the consistent media reports, the return of the original crew seems very likely.

It remains unclear, however, when "Grown Ups 3" will be released on Netflix. Production is apparently still in its early stages. We'll keep you updated, of course, and report back when there's information about the release date. As soon as the first trailer is released, you'll naturally find it in the KinoCheck app and on our YouTube channel.

The Grown Ups Phenomenon

With the official announcement of "Grown Ups 3," one of the most successful comedy series of the last 20 years is making a comeback. The first two films became true audience favorites—and that is precisely what makes the series such a special phenomenon to this day. After all, "Grown Ups" was never intended to deliver sophisticated satire or profound character studies. Instead, the films deliberately rely on nostalgic humor, chaos among friends, and the feeling of watching a close-knit group on vacation together.

The Beginning: The First Grown Ups Movie

The first installment was released in 2010 and brought together a remarkable comedy cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider played five childhood friends who reunite years after their days playing basketball together. The occasion is the funeral of their former coach, but the reunion quickly turns into a turbulent weekend full of old rivalries, embarrassing situations, and family escapades.

The Sequel: Grown Ups 2

"Grown Ups 2" followed in 2013 and placed an even greater focus on the interactions between the characters. This time, the group returns together to their hometown, where they must grapple with the changes of adult life, their families—and a new generation of chaotic teenagers. In terms of plot, the films are often simple in structure, but that is precisely part of the concept: the focus is less on the stories themselves and more on the dynamics between the characters.

The Success of Grown Ups

The secret to the success of "Grown Ups" lies primarily in its unique atmosphere. Many viewers feel as though they aren't just watching a movie, but spending time with friends. In fact, a large part of the charm stems from the fact that Adam Sandler has been working with the same actors for decades. The chemistry between Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade feels natural and improvised as a result. Many scenes are more reminiscent of spontaneous comedy sketches than a classic narrative.

Added to this is the nostalgic core of the films. "Grown Ups" is about growing up without wanting to grow up. The characters are family men with responsibilities, but they often still act like teenagers. It is precisely this contrast that defines the series' humor. For many fans, it also embodies a certain longing for carefree times, for friendships from youth, and for summers spent together without major worries.

Another reason for the series' popularity is its straightforward style. "Grown Ups" deliberately relies on accessible humor, slapstick, and running gags. The films therefore work particularly well as feel-good comedies that you can watch over and over again. This is why the series has become a long-running hit over the years, especially on TV and streaming platforms.

With "Grown Ups 3," not only is a beloved comedy series returning, but also a piece of modern pop culture from the 2010s. That's exactly why many fans are eagerly anticipating it.
