The wait is over! The title for "Spider-Man 4" has been announced. It reads: "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". The title is a reference to the comic storyline "Brand New Day", which started in 2008.

This continues the events of "One More Day", in which Peter Parker makes a momentous deal: in order to save Aunt May's life, he uses magic to make the world forget that he is Spider-Man. An almost identical moment already took place in the finale of "No Way Home", whereby Peter Parker is once again anonymous and on his own.

There are theories that "Brand New Day" either takes place parallel to "Avengers 5: Doomsday" or is set shortly before it in order to prepare for the impending collapse of the multiverse. A similar approach was already taken with "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which took place shortly before the events of "Avengers: Infinity War". Exactly how Spider-Man fits into this cosmic conflict, however, remains to be seen. However, Tom Holland spoke of a "new era" at this year's CinemaCon, while new director Destin Daniel Cretton announced that the film will tell a completely new kind of "Spider-Man" story.

Tom Holland will be joined by a new character alongside him, played by "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink. However, it has not yet been revealed exactly what role she will play.

Also exciting is the persistent rumor that Robert Downey Jr. could also make an appearance in this film as Doctor Doom. This speculation was given added credence as the source of the rumor, Production Weekly magazine, correctly predicted the title "Brand New Day" back in October 2024. If this turns out to be true, Doctor Doom could play a central role in the plot, especially in light of the approaching events in "Avengers 5" and "Avengers 6: Secret Wars".

"Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse"

After all kinds of teething troubles, it is now certain: "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" will be released on June 4, 2027, and Sony has released a series of new images showing Miles Morales fighting Powler. There is also a new encounter with Gwen Stacy – voiced by Hailee Steinfeld.

The story of "Beyond The Spider-Verse" follows on directly from the dramatic ending of its predecessor. Miles Morales, who was previously able to rely on the support of his friends, has to go it alone this time. The shock moment in "Across The Spider-Verse" was huge: in an alternative reality, a darker version of Miles exists – Prowler, one of the most dangerous villains. But that's not the only problem: this world knows no Spider-Man, and New York is in danger of sinking into chaos.

The third part is also being realized by a top-class team. Bob Perischetti and Justin K. Thompson are once again directing, while the screenplay is by David Callaham, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller – the creative trio who have already created captivating stories and impressive animations for the previous films.

The "Spider-Man" films with Tom Holland and the "Spider-Verse" films

Since Tom Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in 2016's "The First Avenger: Civil War", his interpretation of the iconic character has become one of the most popular in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In parallel, Sony has created an animated alternative with the 'Spider-Verse' films, which explore the multiverse in an innovative way.

Tom Holland's "Spider-Man" trilogy in the MCU

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

After his debut as Peter Parker, Tom Holland was given his own film series within the MCU. This began with "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), in which Peter tries to prove himself as a superhero after the events of "Civil War" as he battles the villain Vulture (Michael Keaton). The film received positive reviews for its humorous portrayal and Holland's youthful energy.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

The story continued with "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019), which took place directly after "Avengers: Endgame". Here, Peter had to deal with the supposed hero Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who later turned out to be a fraud. The film was a worldwide success and ended with a huge cliffhanger: Spider-Man's true identity was revealed to the public.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

This moment led directly to "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021), one of the MCU's most successful films. In this story, a failed magic ritual by Doctor Strange causes characters from other Spider-Man universes to appear, including Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's former Spider-Men. The movie was praised for its nostalgia, emotional depth and spectacular action. In the end, Peter opted for a life in hiding, ushering in a new phase for his character.

The "Spider-Verse" films: An animated revolution

Spider-Man: A New Universe (2018)

While Tom Holland's films have shaped the MCU, Sony has taken a completely different approach with the 'Spider-Verse' series. The first film introduced Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man. The animation style was groundbreaking, combining classic comic book aesthetics with modern technology. The film was critically acclaimed and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

The sequel "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" (2023) continued the story and expanded the concept of the multiverse even further. Miles meets numerous Spider-persons from different dimensions, including Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Punk. The animation became even more innovative by adapting each style to the respective reality. The movie ended with a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the conclusion of the trilogy, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse".

The importance of both series for the Spider-Man franchise

The films with Tom Holland have firmly anchored Spider-Man in the MCU and shown how the character can develop in a larger superhero cosmos. They combine classic coming-of-age elements with epic blockbuster moments and allow Peter Parker to grow as a character with a strong personality.

The "Spider-Verse" films, on the other hand, have proven that animation is not just for kids, but can offer a visually revolutionary form of storytelling. By introducing the multiverse, Sony has opened a door for countless possibilities and presented Spider-Man as a universal symbol of heroism.
