The production of the "Harry Potter" series is making ever greater progress. Many rumors revolve around the new cast. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Warner has finally found the three actors for Harry, Ron and Hermione. As was the case with the movies for the big screen, they are said to be newcomers. So far no names have been mentioned nor have there been any images of the new actors. However, these should not be long in coming.

The situation is clearer when it comes to another important role: Professor Albus Dumbledore! He could soon be played by none other than John Lithgow. According to sources at Deadline, the six-time Emmy winner is in final talks with HBO. The broadcaster itself did not want to comment directly on the reports. In an official statement, HBO merely said:

"We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals."

Dumbledore, the wise and powerful principal of Hogwarts and leader of the Order of the Phoenix, was played by the late actors Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the previous film adaptations. In the "Fantastic Beasts" movies, Jude Law played a younger version of the character. Now John Lithgow could follow in the footsteps of these great actors. Originally, "Bridge of Spies" actor Mark Rylance was being considered for the role, but it seems they have now decided against it.

Lithgow has already excelled in numerous film and series productions, including "The Crown", "The Old Man" and his award-winning role as the Trinity Killer in "Dexter". Most recently, he was seen in Edward Berger's "Conclave".

Rumors about the casting of other key roles have been circulating for months. For example, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Brett Goldstein as Hagrid and even Oscar winner Cillian Murphy as Lord Voldemort have been the subject of discussion. According to Daniel Richtman, however, Murphy is to take on a different role, namely that of Professor Quirinus Quirrell.

But it looks like the time of speculation should soon come to an end. We can't wait to show you the final cast - especially pictures of Harry, Ron and Hermione!

Overview of John Lithgow's Most Famous Roles

John Lithgow is one of Hollywood's most versatile actors. With a career spanning several decades, he has been equally convincing in films, television series and on the theater stage. Here are some of his most iconic roles:

Dr. Dick Solomon - "3rd Rock from the Sun" (1996-2001)

Lithgow played one of his most famous roles in the sitcom "3rd Rock from the Sun". He played Dr. Dick Solomon, the leader of a group of extraterrestrial explorers who live on Earth disguised as humans. With his over-the-top and hilarious performance, Lithgow won several Emmy Awards and strengthened his status as an excellent comedian.

Arthur Mitchell – "Dexter" (2009)

In the fourth season of the successful TV series "Dexter", Lithgow played the notorious Trinity killer Arthur Mitchell. This role was a drastic contrast to his previous comedic appearances. Lithgow was convincing as a multi-layered, charismatic, yet extremely brutal serial killer and received an Emmy Award for his gruesome performance.

Winston Churchill – "The Crown" (2016–2019)

In the Netflix series "The Crown", Lithgow played the historical figure Winston Churchill. Although he's not British, his portrayal of the former British Prime Minister was highly praised by critics. His nuanced performance earned him another Emmy Award and emphasized his impressive versatility as an actor.

Lord Farquaad – "Shrek" (2001)

In DreamWorks' animated hit "Shrek", Lithgow provided the voice of the villainous Lord Farquaad. His theatrical, exaggerated interpretation made the egocentric villain one of the most memorable characters in the film series. This role proved that Lithgow can also shine as a dubbing actor.

Dr. Emilio Lizardo / Lord John Whorfin – "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" (1984)

In the cult sci-fi film "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension", Lithgow played the mad scientist Dr. Emilio Lizardo, who is possessed by an extraterrestrial being called Lord John Whorfin. His eccentric and theatrical performance made this role one of the most bizarre and memorable of his career.

Robert Dunlap – "Home Again" (2017)

In the romantic comedy "Home Again", Lithgow played the role of the wealthy and charming businessman Robert Dunlap. Although it was a supporting role, he gave the character depth and charisma and once again demonstrated his versatile skills.
