New sci-fi film starring Keanu Reeves: Female lead announced
The film is directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller
Keanu Reeves is shooting a new science fiction film—and now it's clear who will play the female lead alongside him. The choice fell on Callie Cooke, who previously appeared alongside Hollywood star Brad Pitt in the Oscar-nominated racing drama "F1." There, she played a supporting role as an insecure mechanic. In her new film, however, she is set to take on a more central role. So far, all that is known is that she will play a scientist, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Further details about Cooke's role have not yet been revealed.
It is also unclear what the sci-fi film starring Reeves will be called. Initially, there was talk of "Shiver". However, it has since been reported that this is not the final title. In any case, it is clear that Reeves will play a smuggler who is stuck in a time loop in the Caribbean Sea after a mission gone wrong. There, he not only has to contend with enemy mercenaries, but also with sharks – seemingly over and over again.
New film from the director of Deadpool
The film is directed by Tim Miller, who made his breakthrough with the superhero film "Deadpool" and then went on to direct the sci-fi action film "Terminator: Dark Fate". He is also the creator of the two animated anthology series "Love, Death & Robots" and "Secret Level". Production on his new film with Keanu Reeves began this week. Filming will take place in the Dominican Republic, among other locations.

In addition to Reeves and Cooke, Nicholas Duvernay, Steven Waddington, Abraham Popoola, Bobby Holland Hanton, and Anastasia Safonov have also been announced as additional cast members. The film is being produced by Matthew Vaughn, Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, and John Zaozirny. The theatrical release is scheduled for August 13, 2027.
Another role for Keanu Reeves
The film, which promises plenty of action, should fit seamlessly into the filmography of lead actor Reeves, which is marked by unforgettable action films such as "Point Break", "Speed", "The Matrix", and "John Wick". Before that, however, the actor will be seen in "Outcome". In the comedy by director and co-star Jonah Hill, he plays a Hollywood star who is blackmailed with a mysterious video. The film will be available on Apple TV starting April 10, 2026.
Pass the time with time loop movies
If you want to pass the time until the release of the new Tim Miller film with other sci-fi films about time loops, you can fall back on "Groundhog Day", for example. The 1993 comedy is the classic among time loop movies and stars Bill Murray as a sarcastic weatherman who also has to relive the same day over and over again. "Edge of Tomorrow", which Tim Miller's new film is already being compared to, is also recommended. In the 2014 sci-fi action film, it is Tom Cruise who is stuck in a time loop. To make matters worse for the protagonist played by Cruise, he also has to defend himself against hostile aliens.
And a current movie also tells the story of a beleaguered hero who has already had to live through the same day 116 times: "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die." In this sci-fi comedy, Sam Rockwell plays a time traveler who wants to prevent an apocalyptic future – but fails again and again. It will be interesting to see whether Keanu Reeves fares better in his time loop.
