"Hero" Director to Direct a "Three Body Problem" Film

In 2023 and 2024, we were presented with two series adaptations of Liu Cixin's "Remembrance of Earth's Past" trilogy: A Chinese and an American one. Now there is even a film adaptation in the works – directed by a living legend.

We are talking about Zhang Yimou – director of works such as "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers". According to Variety, Yimou is set to attempt his first venture into the science fiction genre with "Three Body Problem". The project is currently still at an early stage of production, so not much information is known yet. What is certain, however, is that it is an independent adaptation that is not connected to either the Chinese or the American Netflix version. A potential release date is also not yet known.

Earlier this year, Netflix released its own version of the novel. However, due to the explicit depiction of violence and the critical examination of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, it was not available for streaming in China.
