Jungle Cruise 2: Current Status of the Sequel
Apparently, a screenwriter has been found for the Disney movie
News of a sequel to Dwayne Johnson's "Jungle Cruise" film first surfaced over four years ago. Since then, however, things have been fairly quiet around the production. Now, Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman has provided an update: According to him, the movie is still in development at Disney – and a screenwriter has also been found.
The writer is said to be Matthew Robinson, which would bring a fresh perspective to the sequel – the original film was penned by different writers. In the first "Jungle Cruise", a researcher and a captain embark on a dangerous journey through the Amazon jungle. The movie was inspired by the theme park attraction of the same name.
Few details about the sequel have been confirmed so far. However, Dwayne Johnson confirmed some time ago that he's interested in shooting a sequel. It's quite possible that co-star Emily Blunt might return as well. After all, Johnson and Blunt seem to get along well: They are set to appear together in two upcoming films. In October, the MMA drama "The Smashing Machine" will be released. Additionally, they will both star in a new Martin Scorsese film. As for when "Jungle Cruise 2" will be released, that remains unknown. But we will keep you updated as always!

Movie recommendations for "Jungle Cruise" fans
You can currently find "Jungle Cruise" in the Disney+ streaming subscription. If you're looking for similar movies with a mix of action, humor and adventure, we've picked out 5 movies (series) that might be worth watching.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Not much more needs to be said about "Pirates of the Caribbean". The series is a prime example of modern adventure cinema – and, like "Jungle Cruise", is based on a Disneyland attraction. Johnny Depp delivers an iconic performance as the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow, while cursed pirates, fabulous treasures and ancient legends provide plenty of excitement. The mixture of humor, fantasy and the high seas makes this series interesting for adventure fans. There are now five films – and a sixth is already being planned. Find out whether Johnny Depp is involved and what else is known about the new part in our film preview!

The Mummy
The "Mummy" films starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are now considered cult classics of the adventure film genre. The chemistry between the main characters, witty dialog and plenty of supernatural threats are somewhat reminiscent of the interplay between Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in "Jungle Cruise". The story revolves around a resurrected mummy in ancient Egypt – exciting, charming and with just the right amount of horror. A new edition of "The Mummy" awaits us in 2026 – but without Brendan Fraser and co. All other known details can be found in our film preview.

National Treasure
In this modern treasure hunt, Nicolas Cage as historian and adventurer Ben Gates goes on the hunt for a legendary treasure hidden somewhere in the history of the United States. Anyone who enjoyed puzzles, secret codes and hidden clues in "Jungle Cruise" will also find them here. The clever twists and the pace of "National Treasure" make for great entertainment.
Anaconda
If you particularly liked the jungle setting of "Jungle Cruise", "Anaconda" might be a good choice. In this thriller, a film crew ends up in the Amazon – only to be hunted by a gigantic, man-eating snake. Although the film is more trash cult than profound cinema, that doesn't make it any less entertaining. A new "Anaconda" film awaits us here too, which will be released in cinemas on December 25, 2025.
Indiana Jones
Few names are as synonymous with adventure cinema as "Indiana Jones". With hat, whip and a penchant for chaos, the famous archaeologist travels the world – always in search of ancient artifacts, always on the run from dangerous enemies. The first trilogy in particular – "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Temple of Doom" and "The Last Crusade" – is remembered by film fans around the world. The films still define the style today and are a must for anyone who longs for classic, fast-paced treasure hunts. However, the following parts, "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" and "The Dial of Destiny", were rather mixed.
