VisionQuest: The premiere date for the new MCU series has been set
The lineup is quite impressive!
Good news for all Marvel fans: According to industry magazine Variety, the highly anticipated MCU series "VisionQuest" is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026.
"VisionQuest" once again centers on Paul Bettany, who reprises his role as Vision, or White Vision. Bettany last appeared in the acclaimed series "WandaVision" alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. The project was a huge success in 2021 and is still considered one of the MCU's most creative projects to date. Marvel officially describes "VisionQuest" as the "final chapter" of a connected story that began with "WandaVision" and continued in 2024 with "Agatha All Along".
Fans are also likely to be particularly excited about the return of James Spader. The actor will once again take on the role of the iconic villain Ultron, whom he previously portrayed in "Avengers: Age of Ultron". This suggests that "VisionQuest" will not only explore Vision's personal journey but may also revisit old conflicts from the Avengers' past. The cast of the new series also includes Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, James D'Arcy, and Orla Brady.
Behind the scenes, Terry Matalas takes on the role of showrunner. The producer most recently made a name for himself with the acclaimed third season of "Star Trek: Picard" and is now set to bring a fresh narrative perspective to the Marvel Universe. "VisionQuest" comprises a total of eight episodes and is officially part of Phase Six of the MCU.
All of Vision's appearances in the MCU
Vision is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and complex characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Originally launched as the artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S., he evolved into an independent synthezoid through the Mind Stone and the influence of Ultron. Here is an overview of all the films and series in which Vision (played by Paul Bettany) physically appears:
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
This marks the birth of Vision. After the evil android Ultron attempted to create a perfect body out of vibranium and organic tissue, the Avengers came into possession of the "Sarcophagus". Tony Stark and Bruce Banner uploaded the remnants of J.A.R.V.I.S. into the body, and Vision was finally brought to life by a bolt of lightning from Thor's hammer. He immediately proved his worth by effortlessly lifting Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, and helped the team in the final battle against Ultron in Sokovia.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
In this film, we see Vision as a full-fledged member of the Avengers, trying to better understand his humanity and his powers. When the Sokovia Accords divide the team, he sides with Iron Man, as he supports the logic behind government oversight. During the conflict, he develops a deeper bond with Wanda Maximoff, but accidentally injures War Machine (James Rhodes) in the final battle at the airport, demonstrating that even a being of pure logic can be distracted by emotions.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
For Vision, this is a tragic chapter. He now lives in seclusion with Wanda in Scotland, but is attacked by Thanos's minions, who are after the Mind Stone in his forehead. Since the stone is his source of life, he offers to sacrifice himself to save the universe. Ultimately, Wanda destroys the stone, but Thanos uses the Time Stone to undo the deed. He violently rips the stone from Vision's head, causing him to die and leaving his body gray and lifeless.
WandaVision (Disney+ series, 2021)
Although Vision died in Infinity War, he returns in a leading role in this series. Through her grief and her chaos magic, Wanda creates an artificial reality in the town of Westview, where she leads an idyllic suburban life with a newly created Vision. At the same time, the organization S.W.O.R.D. reactivates the synthezoid's original body, which now appears as a pure white, emotionless "White Vision". At the end of the series, the memories of the "Westview Vision" transfer to the white body, whereupon it flies away and its whereabouts remain unknown for the time being.
What If...? (Disney+ series, 2021)
In this animated anthology series, Vision appears in various alternate realities of the multiverse. Of particular note is the episode "What If... Ultron Had Won?", in which Ultron successfully takes complete control of Vision's body and uses the Mind Stone to destroy the entire universe.
