Life is Strange is becoming a series!
A start date has yet to be announced.
After the huge success of "Fallout", Amazon is now moving on to the next video game series: a "Life is Strange" series is in the works!
According to Deadline, screenwriter and producer Charlie Covell, known for her work on "The End of the F***ing World" and "KAOS", is behind the project. The series is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Square Enix, among others.
"Life is Strange" follows photography student Max, who discovers that she has the ability to turn back time. When she uses it to save the life of her childhood best friend Chloe, the two become entangled in a web of secrets and intrigue. Together they investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student and discover the darker side of their hometown.
Nick Pepper from Amazon MGM Studios was enthusiastic about the possibility of a "Life is Strange" series:

The series is in wonderful hands with Charlie Covell who has crafted a deeply captivating story based on the iconic video game. Charlie, and their fantastic collaborators at LuckyChap, Story Kitchen, and Square Enix, are the perfect team to deliver a monumental adaptation that will captivate devoted fans and new audiences alike."
A launch date is still under wraps.
From console to screen: Successful video game series adaptations
For a long time, video game adaptations had a rather dubious reputation: many film adaptations seemed loveless or strayed too far from their originals. In recent years, however, things have changed. Streaming services and production studios are investing in high-quality series that delight fans and critics alike. Here is an overview of some of the most successful and popular adaptations.
The Last of Us: Emotional storytelling at the highest level
The HBO series "The Last of Us" is a prime example of how video games with deep characters and emotional stories are ideal for a series adaptation. The series follows Joel and Ellie on their journey through a post-apocalyptic world, focusing heavily on the relationship between the two characters.
The outstanding acting performances, the elaborate setting and the faithful realization of the plot, which nevertheless takes enough creative liberties to open up new perspectives, were particularly praised. This mixture makes "The Last of Us" a reference for future video game series.

Fallout: black humor meets apocalyptic atmosphere
The "Fallout" series from Prime Video proves how well an open game universe lends itself to series. The creators combined a gloomy apocalyptic atmosphere with black humor, detailed world design and an original plot that appeals to fans and newcomers alike. The series scores with its unique style, numerous allusions to the game and characters that oscillate between cynical detachment and humanity. This balance quickly made it a talking point in the gaming community and far beyond.

Arcane: a masterpiece of animation
"Arcane", based on the "League of Legends" universe, is considered one of the biggest surprise successes among video game adaptations. The series captivates with its unique animation style, inspired by hand painting, and tells a profound story about power, family and social inequality. Even viewers with no connection to "League of Legends" were impressed by the character development and emotional depth. "Arcane" has proven that video game adaptations not only work for fans of the games, but can also appeal to a broad audience.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners: a perfect complement to the game
The anime project "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" tells an independent story in the dystopian Night City, the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The series impressed with a gripping plot, strong characters and a spectacular animation style that perfectly captures the garish and brutal world of the game. Fans of the game were particularly enthusiastic because the series offers new insights into the universe while respecting the mood and themes of the original.

Castlevania: classic games as an epic fantasy series
The Netflix series "Castlevania" shows that even classic games with relatively simple plots can be great series templates. Inspired by the iconic video games, the series tells a dark story about vampires, monsters and heroes, paired with action-packed fights and strong dialog. With its adult tone and high-quality animation, "Castlevania" has shown that classic game worlds can also be successfully adapted for modern series.

Devil May Cry: Stylish action with a cult factor
Netflix's "Devil May Cry" series brings the iconic demon hunter Dante back into the limelight in 2025 – this time in an animated series. The show combines lightning-fast battles, dark urban fantasy charm and a dose of dry humor, just like the games. Dante is shown here as a younger version, which gives the plot room to retell his development and create an exciting foundation for future seasons.
With lavish animation, a rocking soundtrack and charismatic characters, the series strikes the exact tone that fans of the games love, while opening doors for a new audience. A second season was announced shortly after the launch – a clear sign that "Devil May Cry" has potential for a long future as a series universe.

Why these series are so successful
The key to the success of these series lies in a common approach: respect for the source material combined with the courage to be independent. Instead of copying games one-to-one, the creators use the series format to deepen characters and worlds. Animated series such as "Arcane" and "Castlevania" use their creative freedom to set new visual standards, while live-action productions such as "The Last of Us" and "Fallout" impress above all with first-class acting and elaborate worldbuilding.
These series show that video game adaptations are no longer a niche product, but an integral part of pop culture. With many projects planned, it is clear that we are only at the beginning of a new era for game fans and series lovers.
