Overview

The science fiction drama with music by Oscar® winner Volker Bertelmann is based on the international genre hit novel Memory of Water by Emmi Itärantas. Set in a dystopian yet picturesque backdrop of Finland and Lapland, the heroine's story takes place in a society dominated by a lack of drinking water. The film thus paints a picture of a future characterized by scarcity of resources. There is no fresh water left on the planet. Noria, the newly appointed young tea master of her village, finds out that her late father was guarding a secret: there are supposed to be undiscovered deposits of drinking water in a place called Lost Lands. But the military-led government harshly punishes illegal water trade and monitors the population. Noria's closest friend, the loyal but stubborn Sanja, is the only one she can trust with her secret. That is until she meets Taro, a water specialist who is also looking for a solution to the water shortage. As the secret drives the two women further and further apart, Noria grows closer to Taro. But he is not who she thought he was. Noria must flee to find out if there is still hope. But freedom is like her secret - she must pay a high price for both.
