
After their wedding, the unsuccessful but ambitious actor Guy Woodhouse and his wife Rosemarie move into an old house on New York's Central Park West. After a short time, Guy begins to visit his neighbors, the elderly couple Minnie and Roman Castevet, more and more often. Rosemarie finds them rather strange. After Guy unexpectedly gets the leading role in a Broadway play due to the inexplicable blindness of a competitor, he proposes to Rosemarie that they have a child, and on the night they plan to make love, Rosemary is dazed - perhaps by the alcohol, but possibly also by the chocolate mousse that Minnie has prepared. In a terrible nightmare, she sees herself surrounded by Guy, the Castevets and their friends, while she herself is being raped by the devil.
