With "Clayface," one of Batman's most iconic adversaries steps into the spotlight. The film is part of James Gunn's new DCU and, following "Superman" and the upcoming "Supergirl," takes on a tone all its own: Instead of classic superhero action, audiences can expect a full-fledged horror film.
The story follows failed actor Matt Hagen, who is disfigured after an attack and mutates into the creature Clayface through an experimental treatment. With the ability to change his form at will and even mimic humans, he becomes an unpredictable figure caught between tragedy and menace.
"Clayface" is directed by James Watkins, with a screenplay by horror specialist Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini ("Drive"). The project is produced by, among others, "The Batman" director Matt Reeves. The film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella.
The film is said to take stylistic cues from body horror classics like "The Fly" and promises a dark, tragic transformation that adds an unusually creepy facet to the DCU.
