The Underground Railroad
Overview
The Amazon Original series tells of Cora Randall's (newcomer Thuso Mbedu) desperate call for freedom in the southern United States of America at the end of the 18th century. Cora escapes from a Georgia plantation and sets out in search of a fabled underground railroad. Once there, she discovers not just a metaphor for a better future, but a real railroad line with engineers, drivers, a secret rail network and tunnels beneath the earth of southern America. During her journey, Cora is pursued by Ridgeway (Joel Edgerton), a bounty hunter who, driven by bitter frustration that he never succeeded in retrieving Cora's mother, who has also fled, now does everything he can to bring the girl back to the plantation. The journey from state to state confronts Cora with the legacy of her mother, by whom she was once left behind, and a new life that was previously unimaginable to her.
