Star Wars: "The Knights of the Old Republic" series in development according to insider
Keanu Reeves is in talks for a role
A glimmer of hope for all "Star Wars" fans: after years of waiting, according to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, there are the first signs that Lucasfilm and Disney are actually working on a series based on "The Knights of the Old Republic".
According to Richtman, however, it will not be a direct adaptation of the popular game series, but rather its own interpretation and new content. Back in 2019, Kathleen Kennedy mentioned that the setting of Knights of the Old Republic was being considered as an option for future projects. Although there have been several novels and expansions for the MMORPG since then, nothing has really happened in terms of a film adaptation.
Another exciting rumor is that Keanu Reeves is being considered for a role. Many fans would like to see him as the legendary Sith/Jedi master Revan. Reeves was already supposed to take on a role for "The Acolyte". As we all know, however, nothing came of it. However, Disney still seems to be interested in the star.
However, it remains to be seen whether the project will actually be realized. There has been no official statement from Disney so far. However, it is unlikely to fail due to fan interest. However, there is bad news regarding the "Star Wars" film by Taika Waititi. This has been put on ice for an indefinite period of time.
"Star Wars" projects: An overview
Numerous 'Star Wars' films and series have been announced in recent years, which can quickly lead to a loss of overview. This article is intended to provide an overview of the current projects, both for the cinema and for the Disney+ streaming service.
Planned movies
- "The Mandalorian & Grogu": Directed by Jon Favreau, a movie adventure featuring the Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu will be released in cinemas on May 22, 2026.
- "Dawn Of The Jedi": James Mangold, the director of "Logan", will tell the story of the first Jedi. Beau Willimon, known for his work on "House Of Cards" and "Andor", will be assisting him. The film, which is set around 25,000 years before the original trilogy, could be shot in 2025 and released in December 2027.
- Project by Shawn Levy: The director of "Deadpool & Wolverine", Shawn Levy, is working on a "Star Wars" film in which Daisy Ridley is to act as a mentor for a young protagonist. Filming could also begin in 2025, which would lead to competition with Mangold's film for a 2027 release.
- Mandoverse finale: Dave Filoni, known for "Ahsoka", will direct an epic feature film that will conclude the stories of all the Mandoverse series. Characters such as Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) will probably have to work together to fight villain Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Filming is planned for 2026, with a cinema release in 2028.
- New "Star Wars" trilogy by Simon Kinberg: Simon Kinberg, who worked on "Star Wars Rebels", is developing a new trilogy that is not supposed to be "Star Wars 10 - 12", but could be set in a similar period. The focus will be on new characters, but familiar faces could also appear.
- "Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order": 15 years after "Star Wars 9", Rey (Daisy Ridley) is to rebuild the Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing. Due to the many delays and the announcement of the Kinberg trilogy, the future of this project is uncertain.
- "The Rogue Squadron": Patty Jenkins, the director of "Wonder Woman", is working on a movie about aerial combat in the "Star Wars" universe. The project, which was originally planned for December 2023, was not canceled, but was put on hold for a long time. Jenkins is now working on a new script.
