One of the most exciting projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking shape. According to an exclusive report from Nexus Point News, Marvel Studios has signed screenwriter Rachna Fruchbom to develop the new television series "Champions". Fruchbom is expected to not only write the script, but also serve as showrunner and executive producer.
The first speculation about a TV series about Marvel's younger heroes came from the X-user ApocHorseman, who reported that the studio was working on "Champions". Fans had often hoped for a "Young Avengers" or "Champions" adaptation in recent years, especially since the MCU introduced several young superheroes like Cassie Lang, Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Kid Loki, Eli Bradley, Riri Williams, America Chavez and Billy Maximoff.
The "Young Avengers" were created in 2005 by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung and included a core group consisting of Iron Lad, Wiccan, Hulkling, Hawkeye, Stature, Speed and Patriot. Later, characters such as Kid Loki, America Chavez and Marvel Boy were added. The "Champions" team debuted in 2016 as a separate superhero group under the pen of Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos. This new formation consisted of Ms. Marvel, Brawn, Nova, Ironheart and a time-traveling Cyclops, among others.
As the MCU has now established many of these characters, the "Champions" series is likely to be made up of members of both teams. The scene between Kate Bishop and Kamala Khan at the end of "The Marvels" in particular points to a link between these characters. The title "Champions" could have been deliberately chosen to differentiate the series from the "Avengers" films and take the MCU in a new direction.
Although the Disney+ series is still in the early stages of development, the signing of Fruchbom should be a clear signal that Marvel Studios is taking the project seriously. Fans can look forward to seeing which young heroes will ultimately make the leap to TV screens and what new adventures await them.
