The eleventh "Fast and Furious" film is taking a big step forward: after a long wait, Vin Diesel was finally able to announce the start date. But that's not all: He also revealed the title of the grand finale: "Fast Forever"!

The production of the final film was stuck for a long time and had to contend with a number of problems. A few months ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that there was no finished script and that the contractual situation with some of the actors had not yet been clarified. In addition, distributor Universal was said to be planning to significantly reduce the budget.

So the good news is that Diesel's announcement finally gives fans of the action saga more clarity. The bad news, however, is that patience is still required. The superstar had this to say on Instagram:

"No one said the road would be easy… but it's ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER"

We will of course keep you up to date with any further updates on the finale of the franchise!

Fast & Furious: from street race to global blockbuster phenomenon

Hardly any other film series has undergone such a radical transformation over the past two decades as "Fast & Furious". What began in 2001 as a comparatively small action film about illegal street racing is now one of the most successful and longest-lasting blockbuster sagas in cinema history. The films stand for over-the-top action, international locations, increasingly absurd stunts – and for a central leitmotif that holds all the parts together: Family.

Initially deeply rooted in the tuning and street racing culture of the early 2000s, it developed via heist and undercover elements into large-scale world rescue missions. The decisive turning point came with the deliberate departure from pure street racing to spectacular ensemble action cinema. Since then, the films have competed less with car films than with superhero blockbusters – only without capes, but with nitro, muscle cars and rather... flexible laws of physics.

The beginnings of the series

The first movie "The Fast and the Furious" takes us to the streets of Los Angeles. Undercover cop Brian O'Conner infiltrates the street racing scene and meets Dominic Toretto, his sister and other crew members. The film combines cop thriller with car culture and lays the emotional foundation for the series.

In "2 Fast 2 Furious", on the other hand, Vin Diesel is not part of the cast. Brian works with his old friend Roman Pearce. The tone of the sequel is somewhat lighter. "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" is an initially isolated spin-off that focuses on drift racing in Japan. The film only became more important later when it was integrated into the overarching timeline.

The original cast returns

The fourth "Fast & Furious" movie marks the return of the original stars. The film combines the early street racing roots with stronger action and thriller elements and serves as a bridge to the later direction of the saga. Meanwhile, "Fast Five" is more of a heist movie with an international setting and Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs. The legendary vault stunt marks the moment when "Fast & Furious" finally becomes an action giant.

In "Fast & Furious 6", the stakes become more global and the opponents stronger. The film expands the "family" and takes the action to a new level – including an infamously long airport finale. "Furious 7", on the other hand, is overshadowed by the death of Paul Walker. The film combines spectacular action with a surprisingly emotional farewell and is considered by many to be one of the highlights of the series.

The films without Paul Walker

In "The Fate of the Furious", Dominic Toretto becomes the antagonist of his own crew. The film focuses on espionage elements, cyberterrorism and even bigger setpieces – such as a chase with remote-controlled cars. After that, a spin-off was released: "Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw". In it, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham deliver buddy action.

"Fast & Furious 9" sees a return to family conflicts: Dom's missing brother turns up. The series reaches new levels of absurdity – including a detour into space. "Fast X" is the beginning of the grand finale. Jason Momoa provides a breath of fresh air as an exaggerated antagonist. The film focuses on escalation, cliffhangers and nostalgia. The action saga is set to come to an end in 2028 with "Fast Forever". According to Diesel, Paul Walker's character Brian O'Connor will also appear in the final film.
