The First The Running Man Trailer is Coming!
The remake is just one of several upcoming Stephen King adaptations
A new Stephen King film adaptation is coming up! We are talking about "The Running Man", which was already made in the 80s with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the leading role. It was announced via the official social media channels that the trailer is in the starting blocks – and will be released today! The news was announced by the lead actor Glen Powell himself.
The plot
The story is set in a bleak future where the government has gained complete control over the media. At the center is Ben Richards – a desperate man who takes part in a brutal reality show. The show promises huge prize money, but also involves deadly risks. Richards puts everything on the line to use the winnings to save the life of his seriously ill daughter.
The film is based on the horror master's 1982 novel. King published the book under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. Incidentally, the novel is set in the year 2025 to coincide with the release of this year's remake.
Cast and crew
The cast of "The Running Man" is quite impressive: Glen Powell has really taken off in Hollywood in recent years. The actor was most recently seen in the disaster film "Twisters" and in the romantic comedy "Anyone But You" alongside Sydney Sweeney. He is also known from the Tom Cruise blockbuster "Top Gun: Maverick".
The cast also includes Josh Brolin (known as Thanos in the Marvel universe), William H. Macy ("Fargo"), Katy O'Brian ("The Mandalorian") and Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo ("Euphoria"). The film is being directed by Edgar Wright. The director is particularly popular for films such as "Baby Driver", "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz". Most recently, he also shot "Last Night in Soho". The screenplay is being written by "21 Jump Street" author Michael Bacall.
The trailer will now be released on July 1, 2025. A release date for "The Running Man" has also already been set: the film will be released in cinemas on November 6, 2025.
Other upcoming Stephen King film adaptations
The Long Walk
Fans of Stephen King will not only get "The Running Man" in the near future. There are several other projects in the works. "The Long Walk" will be released before the "Running Man" film. The novel was also published under King's pseudonym Richard Bachman.
The director is "Hunger Games" veteran Francis Lawrence. The story is set in a militarized future and revolves around a cruel annual competition: one hundred young people take part in the so-called "Long Walk". Anyone who stops, is too slow or breaks the rules is given warnings – after the third, execution follows. Only one participant is allowed to survive and receives everything they want as a reward.
The cast includes newcomers David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer and Cooper Hoffman, son of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Also on board: "Star Wars" legend Mark Hamill as the organizer of the march, the "Major", and Judy Greer. "The Long Walk" opens in cinemas on September 11, 2025.

It: Welcome to Derry
A new series entitled "It: Welcome to Derry" is also being released. In it, Bill Skarsgård returns as the terrifying clown Pennywise. He previously took on the role in "It" and "It: Chapter 2".
The new series takes us back to the eponymous small town, known from Stephen King's novels and the films. Set in the early 60s, the plot tells a new story about a group of teenagers who confront the ancient evil – the entity that spreads fear and terror every 27 years. The series will tie in thematically and visually with the films, but also bring new perspectives.
Andy Muschietti, who was previously responsible for the "It" films, will once again direct the series. The series is being produced by HBO Max in cooperation with Warner Bros. Television. "It: Welcome to Derry" is due to be released later this year, but an exact start date has not yet been set. You can take a look at the first trailer here.
