This news is likely to spark debate: In recent years, there has been repeated speculation about a possible continuation of the "Jason Bourne" series, but no concrete progress has been made. Now, however, there are increasing indications that a new film could still be in the works – albeit with a significant change.
As Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider revealed in his podcast The Hot Mic, production is indeed set to go ahead without Matt Damon. At the beginning of 2026, Damon himself was still optimistic but cautious. Although he hoped for a sequel, he emphasized that it would be complicated to make happen. Earlier versions of the script had not convinced him to reprise the role of Jason Bourne.
An attempt had already been made to realign the franchise in 2012, with Jeremy Renner taking over the lead role in "The Bourne Legacy". In 2019, a spin-off series called "Treadstone" was launched, with Jeremy Irvine playing the central character. However, neither project was particularly well received by critics or fans. So it would be a pretty risky undertaking to shoot a new "Jason Bourne" movie without Matt Damon. After all, he is the poster boy for the action series par excellence.
In the meantime, "All Quiet on the Western Front" director Edward Berger has been linked to the project. But nothing much has happened since then. In any case, it will probably be some time before Jason Bourne returns to the big screen.

The story delves deeper into the themes of guilt and responsibility. While secret services try to cover up their own misdeeds, Bourne fights not only for survival, but also for moral clarity.
The spectacular chase through Moscow in particular is still considered one of the most impressive action sequences of the 2000s. The film proved that intelligent storytelling and uncompromising action do not have to be a contradiction.

In 2007, the series reached its preliminary climax with "The Bourne Ultimatum". Paul Greengrass brought the story to a logical conclusion and solved the mystery surrounding the secret Treadstone program. The film combines global locations with nerve-racking action scenes – from London to Madrid to New York. At the same time, the focus always remains on Bourne's inner conflict.
