New Keanu Reeves Film: Release Date Set for Shiver by Deadpool Director
In his new film, the "John Wick" star is trapped in a deadly time loop!
Keanu Reeves is back with a new film project! He is teaming up with "Deadpool" director Tim Miller for the sci-fi adventure "Shiver". Warner Bros. has now announced the official theatrical release date.
The premise of the film sounds pretty crazy: Reeves plays an unsuccessful smuggler who has to complete a job in the Caribbean. In the process, he has to deal with pirates, dead bodies and sharks. He is also trapped in a deadly time loop! The wild mix of genres is apparently reminiscent of the popular sci-fi action film "Edge of Tomorrow" with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
Of course, Keanu Reeves is very familiar with the science fiction genre. The actor became an international superstar thanks to the role of Neo in "The Matrix". Meanwhile, director Tim Miller has already been able to fully indulge his creativity as the creator of the Netflix series "Love, Death & Robots". The script for the film is being written by Ian Shorr ("Infinite").
The start date of Shiver
However, it will be some time before we can see "Shiver" on cinema screens. Warner Bros. has set the US release date for August 13, 2027. The film studio also revealed the release date of the "Conjuring" prequel "First Communion". You can find all the information here.
Keanu Reeves and his most famous films
Keanu Reeves has been one of Hollywood's best-known stars for decades. His career includes action blockbusters, science fiction milestones and cult films that still have an impact today.
He made a name for himself as an action star back in the 90s. In "Speed", he fought against time alongside Sandra Bullock. In "Point Break", viewers got to see him as undercover agent Johnny Utah in the world of extreme sportsmen and bank robbers. Kathryn Bigelow's film is still considered an absolute cult film and a defining influence on the action genre. A series adaptation of "Point Break" is currently in development. Find out all the details here.

However, the most influential film of his career is "The Matrix". In the role of hacker Neo, Reeves became the face of an entire generation of sci-fi fans. The mixture of philosophical questions, revolutionary special effects and iconic action sequences made the film – and its sequels – a worldwide phenomenon.
Reeves was also convincing outside of classic action roles. In "The Devil's Advocate", he played a young lawyer (alongside Al Pacino and Charlize Theron) who gets caught up in a dark moral game. In "Constantine", he ventured into the supernatural and embodied a cynical demon hunter. Reeves has been planning a sequel with director Francis Lawrence for some time. You can find out about the current status of "Constantine 2" here.
After a few flops, Reeves celebrated his big comeback in 2014. We're of course talking about the action hit "John Wick". As a taciturn hitman who embarks on a merciless campaign of revenge, Reeves established one of the most successful action series of recent years. The films are known for their precise choreography, uncompromising action and Reeves' physical commitment. The fan favorite "John Wick 4" is by no means the end of the action saga. "John Wick 5" is currently being developed! Find out all the details in our movie preview.

Time loop movies
Time loops have long been established as a fascinating narrative concept. Reliving the same day or moment over and over again opens up space for humor, drama and philosophical questions. Some films have used this motif in a particularly influential way. "Groundhog Day" a classic of the genre. Bill Murray plays a cynical weather presenter who relives the same day over and over again. The film combines comedy with a surprisingly profound development of its protagonist and made a lasting impression on the time loop motif.
Things are much more action-packed in "Edge of Tomorrow". In a futuristic alien invasion, Tom Cruise gets caught in a deadly time loop in which he starts the same day anew after each death. The film combines science fiction, action and humor and cleverly uses repetition to develop characters. "Source Code" also relies on the concept of repetition. Jake Gyllenhaal relives the last eight minutes before a train explosion over and over again in order to prevent an attack.
"Palm Springs" offers a modern and playful variation. The romantic comedy starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti relocates the time loop to a wedding setting and combines humor with existential thoughts about meaning, stagnation and change. There are now a whole host of films that make successful use of the time loop concept. So it will be interesting to see how the crazy genre mix of "Shiver" will be realized.
