Barry Keoghan Joins the "Peaky Blinders" Movie
Steven Knight is in charge of the screenplay
The eagerly awaited "Peaky Blinders" film continues to take shape – because alongside Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Ferguson, one of the most sought-after young actors of our time will also be seen in the epic.
We're talking about Barry Keoghan, who, according to Deadline, will be playing a hitherto unknown role. The Irish actor, who received recognition for his performances in "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", as well as recently shining in the satire "Saltburn", is known for his versatile and intense portrayals.
The series "Peaky Blinders" has gained a massive following since its debut in 2013. It tells the story of the Shelby family, a crime gang operating in post-war Birmingham. Under the leadership of Tommy Shelby, the Peaky Blinders have evolved from a small criminal gang into a powerful organization with influence throughout England. The series, known for its dark atmosphere, complex characters and use of modern music in a historical setting, has been praised by critics and viewers alike.
However, the end of the sixth and final season left fans with many unanswered questions. Steven Knight, the creator of the series, had long planned to continue the story in a movie. Knight, who also wrote the screenplay for the "Peaky Blinders" film, revealed that the story will be set during the Second World War and will focus in particular on the younger members of the Shelbys. Duke and Isiah in particular will play a central role. It seems as if they are preparing for a kind of generational change. Of course, Oscar winner Cillian Murphy will also be back as Tommy Shelby, supported by Rebecca Ferguson.
The movie will be directed by Tom Harper, known for "The Aeronauts" and the action thriller "Heart of Stone" with Gal Gadot. Filming is set to take place in England this year, so a release in 2025 seems feasible. There are also growing rumors that two "Peaky Blinders" spin-offs are in the works. One is to be set after the events of the main series, while the other is to be a prequel of sorts and shed light on Aunt Polly's past. So golden days are coming for all fans of the crime series!
