Every fan of the series is likely eager to know when the third season of "Severance" will premiere on Apple TV. While an official release date is still pending, lead actor Adam Scott now has some good news.

On the red carpet at the BAFTA TV Awards, he was asked by Deadline about the long wait between the first and second seasons of "Severance." The debut season aired in 2022. Viewers then had to wait three years before the second season finally followed. Regarding the third season, Scott said:

"We're always trying to shorten the amount of time between seasons, but it's more important for it to be great than for it to be fast. But, yeah, we're definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long."

Filming for season 3 is likely to begin soon

The "Severance" lead actor did not mention a specific date or further details regarding the release. However, his statement gives hope that this time, fans won't have to wait quite as long for the continuation of the sci-fi series. The third season was officially announced back in March of last year, immediately following the end of Season 2. Filming is expected to begin this summer. According to Scott, it won't be long now. Given that, it's entirely possible that the new episodes will be released as early as next year.

Scott declined to comment on possible storylines for the third season of "Severance." According to him, it would be a bummer to go into detail and spoil the plotlines.

Mysterious office job: What Severance is about

In "Severance," Adam Scott plays Mark Scout, an employee of the mysterious company Lumon Industries. What makes it unique: Mark and his colleagues each possess two separate personalities. This is made possible by a procedure called Severance. In this way, the employees literally lead a double life: one part of their personality works in the office and knows nothing of what happens outside the company before and after work. The other part, in turn, remembers nothing of what happened during work. It's essentially a form of work-life balance taken to the extreme, where work and life are radically separated from one another.

Although "Severance" is a sci-fi series, it also feels partly like a workplace comedy – and thus taps into a genre that has a firm place in the world of TV series thanks to workplace hits like "The Office." That said, "Severance" feels more like a workplace comedy from hell. The events within the office are funny primarily because they seem so absurd. At the same time, there is a consistently menacing, mysterious atmosphere. You constantly find yourself wondering: What the hell is actually going on here?

Numerous awards and a star-studded cast

For the streaming service Apple TV, the unusual series proved to be a hit. "Severance" has been celebrated by critics and has already won numerous awards. The second season alone was nominated for 27 awards at the 2025 Emmy Awards – no other series received as many nominations that year. In the end, "Severance" took home eight Emmy Awards. The sci-fi series was created by Dan Erickson, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. Ben Stiller is also among the executive producers and directed several episodes of the series.

In addition to Adam Scott, "Severance" boasts an illustrious ensemble of other top-tier actors: Zach Cherry as Dylan George, Britt Lower as Helly R., Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick, Jen Tullock as Devon Scout-Hale, Dichen Lachman as Ms. Casey, Michael Chernus as Ricken Hale, John Turturro as Irving Bailiff, Sarah Bock as Eustice Huang, Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman, and Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel.
