A new Bond candidate is currently making the rounds online! For many years, numerous names have been circulating as potential successors to Daniel Craig as 007 in the 26th "Bond" film. Casting has begun—and producer Amy Pascal recently hinted that an official announcement can be expected toward the end of 2026.
Still, it's of course possible that certain details and actors' names might leak out ahead of time. British TV host Richard Osman recently mentioned a hot candidate on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment:
"The name I've heard is Jack Lowden. It's definitely not the case that he's already secured the role. He's definitely being seriously considered."
Jack Lowden as James Bond?
Jack Lowden certainly has experience in the right genre: The British actor is best known for the spy series "Slow Horses." The actor was also part of the ensemble cast in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" and appeared in the historical film "Mary, Queen of Scots." In the upcoming Netflix adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice," he will play Mr. Darcy.
It's hard to say whether—and to what extent—Lowden is actually in the running to be the new 007. Amazon MGM has already stated that it will not comment on specific details during the casting process. That said, casting director Nina Gold is reportedly in charge of casting the new 007. And Gold also worked in this role on Lowden's series "Slow Horses."
The Casting Profile for the New Bond
In recent months, various actors have repeatedly been mentioned as potential Bond candidates. Rumors range from Callum Turner to "Euphoria" star Jacob Elordi to "Babygirl" actor Harris Dickinson. Fan favorites like Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy have also been discussed for quite some time. However, these actors are unlikely to be candidates due to certain criteria.
Some time ago, the industry portal Deadline reported on a casting profile for the new 007. According to the report, producers are looking for a "fresh face" and are apparently less interested in big-name actors. The ideal candidate is said to be a male actor around 30 years old. In addition, the Bond actor is supposed to be British.
When might the new James Bond movie be released?
Casting has already begun, and Bond is expected to be cast by 2026. Filming should follow in 2027. Fans of the spy series can likely hope for a release date in 2028 at the earliest.

According to Villeneuve himself, he grew up watching the Bond films and is a huge fan of the series.
Steven Knight was brought on board to write the screenplay. Knight is best known as the creator and showrunner of the hit series "Peaky Blinders." He also co-developed the historical series "Taboo" with Tom Hardy. Knight has also made his mark on the big screen: among other works, he penned the screenplay for David Cronenberg's dark gangster thriller "Eastern Promises."
