Official: Guy Ritchie is filming Road House 2!
Jake Gyllenhaal will once again play the lead role
After the huge success of the 'Road House' remake with Jake Gyllenhaal, a sequel is now on the cards. It has now been officially confirmed via The Hollywood Reporter that Guy Ritchie will be filming "Road House 2"!
Jake Gyllenhaal is set to return to the big screenas Dalton, a former UFC fighter who works as a bouncer in a bar in the Florida Keys – or rather: to the screens. Gyllenhaal will also be working behind the scenes as a producer. A reunion with Lukas Gage as up-and-coming bouncer Billy is also possible. The actor himself has already expressed an interest in returning.
The screenplay was written by Will Beall, who has already proven his flair for fast-paced action films with action blockbusters such as "Aquaman" and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die". Specific details about the plot and location are still being kept secret.
The first part of 2024, a remake of the 1989 film of the same name starring Patrick Swayze, was directed by Doug Liman and became a huge success on Prime Video with almost 80 million viewers worldwide in just eight weeks. Liman himself is unlikely to return for the sequel. The reason for this is a public dispute with Amazon over the exclusive streaming release – Liman had originally hoped for a theatrical release. An exact start date for "Road House 2" has yet to be set .

Fists, honor, adrenaline: The best martial arts films for fans of Road House
Whether in smoky bars, cages or on the streets – when fists talk and morals prevail over muscles, the heart of "Road House" fans beats faster. The success of the remake with Jake Gyllenhaal has once again proven how much the rough charm of martial arts heroes captivates us. If you can't get enough of Dalton's blend of control, fury and skill, here are seven martial arts films that deliver the same level of energy – raw, uncompromising and electrifying.
Warrior (2011) – Brothers. Blood. Octagon.
Two estranged brothers – both fighters, both with a dream, both on a collision course. In a mixed martial arts tournament, they fight their way to the final... against each other. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton not only deliver top performances physically, but also emotionally. "Warrior" is a drama with heart and a martial arts film with real weight. A must-see.
Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing (2006) - The king of prison fighting
Scott Adkins as Yuri Boyka – the ultimate anti-hero of underground fighting. In a Russian prison, an American boxer must assert himself against a brutal fighting system. "Undisputed 2" is uncompromising, dirty and full of breathtaking martial arts choreography. An insider tip that became a cult series.
Bloodsport (1988) – Van Damme and the myth of Kumite
The film that made Jean-Claude Van Damme a superstar: "Bloodsport" tells the (half-true) story of Frank Dux, who competes against the best fighters in the world in the secret underground tournament "Kumite". Brutal, straightforward, iconic – "Bloodsport" is the old-school model for many films, including "Road House".
The Night Comes for Us (2018) – Indonesian brutality with style
This Indonesian action film pushes boundaries – both visually and physically. In a story about loyalty, betrayal and redemption, a former triad killer slaughters his way through hordes of enemies. Extremely tough fights, razor-sharp blades and bones that break by the dozen. Those who like it violent will love "The Night Comes for Us".
The Fighters (2008) – High school meets MMA
A rebellious teenager is drawn into the MMA milieu at his new school. What begins as a typical coming-of-age drama quickly develops into an energetic martial arts film with credible fights and a real training spirit. The message: don't fight out of anger – fight for dignity.
The Raid (2011) – Masterpiece of martial arts action
A SWAT team storms a high-rise building controlled by a gangster boss – and becomes a target. "The Raid" is a tour de force of silat martial arts, hand-to-hand combat mayhem and tactical tension. Director Gareth Evans has raised the bar for modern martial arts films with this movie.
Kickboxer (1989) – A classic with a lot of heart and sweat
Another Van Damme classic: when his brother is seriously injured in an illegal fight, Kurt travels to Thailand to train in the art of Muay Thai – and take revenge. "Kickboxer" offers a simple story, strong images and iconic training montages. Pure nostalgia with a hard edge.
Conclusion
"Road House" was never just an action movie – it was a statement: style meets violence, philosophy meets fist. The films recommended here carry on this spirit, whether in the Octagon, on the street or in dark backyards. Anyone who sees more in martial arts than just punches – namely a fight for dignity, discipline and self-control – will find their new favorite films in this list. Ready for the next fight? Then: bandages on, streaming on – and let's get ready to rumble!
