Scream 7: Joel McHale cast as Sidney's husband
"Scream 6" actress Jasmin Savoy Brown returns
The cast of the seventh installment of the "Scream" series is growing! As the online portals Deadline and Variety report, more roles have been cast for the horror franchise.
Joel McHale in "Scream 7"
We're talking about "Community" star Joel McHale. In 'Scream 7', he will play the husband of Sidney Prescott. As we already know, Neve Campell will also return in the role of Sydney after her absence in "Scream 6".
McHale was most recently seen in the popular series "The Bear" , among others. His best-known role is probably Jeff Winger from the cult series "Community". He starred in the comedy series for six seasons. In the announced film sequel, he will once again slip into his signature role.
Surprising casting
Some "Scream" fans may well have been surprised by McHale's casting. Sydney's husband Mark was already mentioned in the fifth and sixth installments of the slasher series. However, fans assumed that the characters were talking about Mark Kincaid from "Scream 3". The character played by Patrick Dempsey began a relationship with the protagonist at the end of the third part. This speculation was put to rest with the casting of McHale.
Mindy Meeks returns
Variety also reports on the return of Jasmin Savoy Brown in her role as Mindy Meeks. Brown previously played the character in the fifth and sixth installments of the series. Series fans may also recognize her from the series "Yellowjackets".
Movie tips for Scream fans
The "Scream" series, which began in 1996 with Wes Craven's first film, is a milestone in modern horror. With its mix of classic slasher elements and clever meta-commentary on the horror genre itself, the film not only attracted fans of classic horror, but also a wider audience who appreciated the humorous take on genre conventions. If you love the "Scream" series, there are many other films you might enjoy - especially those that tackle similar themes of self-referentiality, suspense and clever humor.
I know what you did last summer
Written by Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of "Scream", this movie follows a group of teenagers who are stalked by a mysterious killer after hiding a dark secret. Like "Scream", this movie combines suspenseful thriller elements with a group of teenagers involved in the murders. It's a successful blend of horror and drama where the killer is both a mystery and a threat. If you like the teenage dynamics and mystery in "Scream", you'll find similar themes in "I Know What You Did Last Summer".
Scary Movie
"Scary Movie" is a humorous parody of many well-known horror films, especially "Scream". The movie takes common slasher and teen horror clichés and exaggerates them in an absurd way. Many of the scenes parodied in "Scary Movie" are taken directly from "Scream", including the iconic "phone call" scene. If you liked the meta-level and self-reflective moments in "Scream", you'll appreciate the humorous approach of "Scary Movie".
The Cabin in the Woods
"The Cabin in the Woods" is a horror movie that acts as a sort of meta-horror and aims to deconstruct the tropical elements of the genre. The movie features a group of friends who travel to a remote cabin only to face a series of supernatural threats. It's a film that cleverly questions the horror genre and uses a similar level of meta-humor as "Scream." If you appreciate the self-referentiality and satirical take on the genre in "Scream," you may love the clever twists and humor of "The Cabin in the Woods" as well.
