News from the "Elden Ring" film: According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, "James Bond" star Ben Whishaw has joined the cast of the fantasy film. Also on board: "Heartstopper" star Kit Connor, who most recently worked with author Alex Garland on the war film "Warfare". However, the casting has not yet been officially confirmed.

With the planned film adaptation of "Elden Ring", we could be in for a promising new fantasy epic. The dark action role-playing game, which was released three years ago, has since thrilled millions of fans with its epic world full of battles, demigods and intrigue. Now the story is to be brought to the big screen – under the direction of Alex Garland, who is also writing the screenplay.

The film is based on an idea by "Elden Ring" creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, who developed his own mythology for the game together with "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin. According to Sneider, Martin will also be involved in the film as a producer. A cinema release date has not yet been set, but a 2027 release is considered possible. A24 is thus continuing to focus on video game adaptations – in addition to "Elden Ring", a "Death Stranding" film is also in the works.

Ben Whishaw: The most famous films of the exceptional British actor

Ben Whishaw has been one of the most exciting actors of his generation for years. With his distinctive voice, his versatile appearance and his flair for profound roles, the Brit has earned himself a permanent place in the film world. Although Whishaw has also enjoyed great success in the theater and his voice can be heard in numerous audiobook and dubbing projects, it is above all his film roles that have made him known to a worldwide audience. Here is an overview of his best-known films.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)

Ben Whishaw's international breakthrough came in 2006 with his leading role in the dark historical drama "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer", based on Patrick Süskind's bestseller. Whishaw embodies the obsessive Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who obsessively searches for the perfect scent in 18th century France and becomes a murderer for it. Whishaw impressed critics and audiences around the world with his intense yet disturbing portrayal of an outsider who barely speaks but is defined above all by his sensual perception. The film was a huge success and established Whishaw as a character actor.

James Bond series (since 2012)

Ben Whishaw became known to an even wider audience in 2012 when he took on the role of Q in the James Bond series. In "Skyfall" (2012), he was seen for the first time as a tech-savvy quartermaster who supports secret agent James Bond with sharp wit and youthful intelligence. Whishaw gave the classic role, which had previously been played by Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese, a new, modern touch. He also remained an integral part of the series as Q in "Spectre" (2015) and "No Time to Die" (2021). His blend of dry irony, technical expertise and subtle emotionality makes his interpretation one of the most popular new additions to the Bond franchise.

Cloud Atlas (2012)

In the same year as Skyfall, Ben Whishaw was also part of the ambitious film project "Cloud Atlas" by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski siblings. The episodic film tells six interwoven stories that take place over centuries. Whishaw took on several roles in it, but the most formative was the character of the young composer Robert Frobisher, whose tragic love and artistic story forms a central plot line. His portrayal of the sensitive, inwardly torn Frobisher is considered one of his strongest performances. The film polarized audiences, but was praised for its complexity and multi-layered performances.

Paddington (2014, 2017, 2024)

Ben Whishaw shows a completely different facet of his skills in the "Paddington" films, where he lends his voice to the eponymous bear. After Colin Firth left the role, Whishaw was cast as the narrator and shaped the lovable, polite bear from Peru with his warm, charming voice. Both "Paddington" (2014) and "Paddington 2" (2017) were celebrated worldwide and are among the best family films of recent years. "Paddington 2" in particular is considered by many critics to be the perfect example of humorous, heart-warming cinema and has become a modern classic. "Paddington in Peru" was then released in 2024.

In addition to these well-known films, Whishaw has appeared in other top-class productions. In the historical drama "Mary Poppins' Return" (2018), he played Michael Banks, the grown-up son of the Banks family, who struggles with the problems of adulthood.

Conclusion

Ben Whishaw stands for diversity and depth. From gritty serial killer to charming quartermaster to the voice of an iconic bear, Whishaw masters an impressive range. With his extraordinary presence and subtle acting, he is one of the most influential British actors of our time. His career shows that artistic ambition and mainstream success need not be mutually exclusive.
