The new "Ocean's" film is taking shape: In an interview with the industry magazine Variety, George Clooney revealed some details about the new installment of the popular series. He talked about the cast and the planned start of filming.

Apparently, the superstar was able to convince several key actors from the original trilogy to return. These include Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle. Andy Garcia also recently announced that he would be appearing in "Ocean's 14".

The new film will focus less on nostalgia and more on one theme in particular: the age of the characters. The concept was based on the Heist film "Going in Style". "Ocean's 14" poses the question of whether the protagonists are now too old for their next coup. Clooney says of the characters:

"We're too old to do what we used to do, but we're still smart enough to know how to get away with something."

Incidentally, Clooney also gave a glimpse of his future in the film business.

"I'm not going to be doing a whole lot of major studio kinds of films. The films that I'm going to be working on for the most part are going to be smaller."

However, he will make an exception for the new "Ocean's" film. They are currently looking for suitable locations. The hope is that filming will start in October 2026. According to Variety, David Leitch is favored as director. A start date for "Ocean's 14" has not yet been revealed.

Film recommendations for fans of the "Ocean's" series

Stylish coups, clever twists, a charismatic ensemble and plenty of coolness – the "Ocean's" films have shaped a very special attitude to life. Those who enjoy watching Danny Ocean and his team plan and pull off perfect heists will find many films with a similar vibe outside of the series. Here are some similar titles for anyone who enjoys elegant heists, team dynamics and clever plots.

The Italian Job

"The Italian Job" combines classic heist elements with fast-paced action and a clear team structure. After a betrayal, a group of professionals set up a meticulously planned revenge coup. The precise distribution of tasks within the team and the focus on planning and timing are particularly reminiscent of the "Ocean's" series. At the same time, the famous car chase with Mini Coopers ensures high entertainment value.

Logan Lucky

Steven Soderbergh, the director of the "Ocean's" trilogy, returns to his roots with "Logan Lucky" – albeit with a somewhat more down-to-earth tone. Instead of casinos, the focus is on a NASCAR race and rural America. The film thrives on dry humor, clever ideas and characters who are underestimated. It is precisely this understatement that makes the coup so appealing and gives the movie a charm all of its own.

Now You See Me

In "Now You See Me", the thieves are magicians who stage their heists as spectacular stage shows. The film plays intensively with distraction, illusion and false trails – central elements that also play a major role in "Ocean's". The plot is deliberately convoluted, so that the viewer is constantly invited to think along and be deceived.

Inside Man

"Inside Man" focuses less on glamor and more on suspense and psychological play. A seemingly conventional bank robbery develops into a complex duel between the perpetrator and the investigators. The unusual structure and long-term plan in particular make the film interesting for Heist fans.

Heat

Michael Mann's "Heat" may not be as playful as the "Ocean's" films, but it shares their fascination with professional planning and highly competent teams. The focus is on the duel between an experienced gangster and an equally obsessed police officer, both driven by perfection and discipline. The film shows heists as precise craftsmanship, where every detail counts and mistakes have serious consequences. With its realistic staging, intense atmosphere and strong focus on professionalism, "Heat" offers a more serious but extremely captivating addition for fans of intelligent heist films. "Heat 2" is currently in development. You can find out the current status here.

All of these films show different facets of the heist genre, but share the core of the "Ocean's" series: intelligent plans, strong teams and the pleasure of watching a perfectly staged coup. Once you have immersed yourself in this world, you will find plenty of material for more exciting movie nights.
