Super Mario World: Title of the Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel Revealed?
Yoshi will likely make his first appearance
The "Super Mario Bros. Movie" was a huge success at the box office. It has therefore long been clear that a sequel is coming – and we may now also know the film title. The studio NBCUniversal has reported on its upcoming film highlights in a press release. One name stood out in particular: "Super Mario World".
The title has since been completely removed from the press release – a solid indication of an inadvertent release. But of course it was already too late: attentive readers had already seen the title. It's now quite reasonable to assume that the sequel will be titled "Super Mario World."
Yoshi in Super Mario World
Of course, this also gives "Super Mario" fans clues about the plot and setting of the sequel. After all, "Super Mario World" is the name of the popular platform game that Nintendo first released in the 90s. One detail is particularly fitting here: fan favorite Yoshi made his first appearance in "Super Mario World". As a reminder, there was a teaser for Yoshi at the end of the "Super Mario Bros. Movie". In the post-credit scene, an egg with green spots could be seen. A clear sign: Yoshi will play a role in the sequel. The title "Super Mario World" would therefore fit the plot of the sequel in this respect.
Start date
We already know that the team behind the scenes will remain largely the same. As with the first "Super Mario" movie, the screenplay was penned by Matthew Fogel. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will also be directing again. Good news for fans of the first film. The start date for the sequel has also already been confirmed. On April 3, 2026, we will be able to experience Yoshi's big appearance in cinemas. You can find all further information in our big movie preview.

Super Mario World – a classic of the 90s
Super Mario World was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in the early 90s. At the time, it not only revolutionized the platform game genre, but also set new standards in video game design. Developed by Nintendo, "Super Mario World" is still one of the most important titles in video game history today.
The birth of a classic
"Super Mario World" was released as a launch title for the SNES. The game not only served as a technical showcase for the new console, but also as a continuation of the already legendary "Mario" series. Following the success of "Super Mario Bros. 3" on the NES, "Super Mario World" offered a new game world: the so-called "Dinosaur Land". There were also new mechanics, larger levels and significantly improved graphics. Particularly striking was the newly introduced character Yoshi, a friendly dinosaur on whose back Mario could ride. Yoshi quickly became one of the most popular characters in the Nintendo universe and has been an integral part of the series ever since.
Gameplay and innovation
The game relied on a familiar basic concept: Mario jumps, runs and fights his way through various levels to rescue Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser. But "Super Mario World" also brought some new features such as a fine-tuned level design and new power-ups. Thanks to the improved hardware of the SNES, "Super Mario World" boasted colorful graphics, smooth animation and an unforgettable soundtrack. The music became a catchy tune for many – atmospherically fitting for every world.
Cult status and legacy
"Super Mario World" was not only celebrated by hardcore fans, but was also a commercial success. It paved the way for other "Mario" games and influenced generations of game designers. Today, the title is considered a classic and has been re-released on several platforms. "Super Mario World is therefore a special video game. With its successful blend of innovation, fun and technical finesse, it has earned its place in the video game hall of fame.
