Wednesday Season 3: Winona Ryder gets new role in Netflix series
The Stranger Things star is not the only new addition
The third season of "Wednesday" will feature another actress: "Stranger Things" star Winona Ryder. The actress will appear in a guest role in the new season of the successful Netflix series. However, the character she will play is still being kept secret. So far, only her name is known. As can be seen in a short announcement video for the upcoming season, Winona Ryder will take on the role of Tabitha.

In any case, Winona Ryder is not the only new addition to season 3 of "Wednesday." Chris Sarandon, Kennedy Moyer, Oscar Morgan, and Noah Taylor have also been signed on. A few months ago, Eva Green was cast as Ophelia – according to Netflix, "one of the most mysterious figures in the 'Wednesday' universe." Ophelia is Morticia Addams' sister and thus Wednesday's aunt.
Reunion in season 3 of Wednesday
With Eva Green and Winona Ryder, two stars who have worked with "Wednesday" executive producer Tim Burton several times are joining the series. In the 2010s, the successful director shot films such as the vampire comedy "Dark Shadows" and the Disney live-action adaptation "Dumbo" with Green. His collaboration with Ryder, on the other hand, goes back much further. She starred in Burton's horror comedy "Beetlejuice" in 1988, and a year later she appeared in his fantasy fairy tale "Edward Scissorhands." In 2024, the director and actress were finally reunited in Burton's sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." In a statement released by Netflix, Burton expressed his enthusiasm about seeing his former colleagues again in season 3 of "Wednesday." This "makes this season extra special," he announced.
Tim Burton is not only the executive producer of "Wednesday," but also the director of several episodes. As such, he gave the series a distinctive style from the outset, which is also characteristic of many of his films. "Wednesday" is also characterized by a penchant for the morbid and a fondness for black humor. Which, in turn, fits perfectly with the premise: The series begins with teenage Wednesday Addams being expelled from school – for attacking her classmates with piranhas. She then ends up at Nevermore Academy, a private school where the monstrous is part of everyday life. Wednesday is played by Jenna Ortega, who will also reprise her role as the title character in the third season. Alongside Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams are among the returning stars of the new season.
Start date on Netflix still to be confirmed
The two "Wednesday" showrunners, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are still keeping the plot of the new episodes under wraps. However, in a statement, Gough has already announced:
Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of 'Wednesday' we possibly can. We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and 'Wednesday'.
Millar adds:
We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!
Filming has already begun near Dublin. However, it is not yet clear when Season 3 of "Wednesday" will premiere on Netflix.
The Addams Family has been around since the 1930s
Wednesday Addams is based on the character of the same name created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. The Addams Family, which he invented and which includes his daughter Wednesday, has a particular appreciation for the grotesque and macabre. What others find repulsive or frightening, the Addams consider completely normal. The first stories about this unconventional family appeared in the 1930s in the form of comics in the renowned magazine The New Yorker. Over the decades, several film adaptations of The Addams Family followed, including a live-action television series in the 1960s and an animated series in the 1970s. In the early 1990s, two live-action films by director Barry Sonnenfeld were released in theaters. Two animated films followed in 2019 and 2021.
Finally, in 2022, "Wednesday" was released, a reinterpretation of the material that became a huge hit for Netflix. The first season of the series starring Jenna Ortega is still the most-watched English-language Netflix series of all time. Given its enormous success, the third season was commissioned before the second had even started.
