For many, it is one of the biggest film highlights of the year: "Avatar 3: Fire and Ash". After some initial images of the blockbuster have already been released in recent weeks and months, we have now been able to take a look at the first trailer. We'll tell you what you can see in it!

The Sully family

The trailer naturally shows all the central characters from James Cameron's epic. We get to see the Sully family members Jake, Neytiri, Lo'ak, Kiri and co. The plot is of course based on the events at the end of "Avatar 2: The Way of Water". Above all, it shows that things have been better for the Sully family in the past. An important element of the trailer is a conversation between Jake and Neytiri. He says to her:

"You cannot live like this, baby, in hate."

As was to be expected, the events at the end of "Avatar 2" have left recognizable traces. Spoilers for "Avatar 2": Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri's son, dies at the end of the movie. Zoe Saldana revealed to Empire magazine in advance that Neytiri's grief and pain will play an important role in "Fire and Ash".

"That pain is seamlessly followed up on. And because it doesn't really have anywhere to go, and doesn't go away, rage can also come from it. [The Sullys] are going to be tested as a family."

The character will now question many things – both her relationship with Jake and her bond with her own people. The trailer already provides a first glimpse of this. A conflict between Jake and Lo'ak can also be seen. The two already had a rather complicated relationship in "The Way of Water".

New clans and a new antagonist

According to Saldaña, we can particularly look forward to the confrontation between Neytiri and Varang, the leader of the Ash People. She is a new antagonist in "Avatar 3". With the Ash People, completely different Na'vi are now to be introduced. The trailer already gave us some first impressions of Varang and her clan members. But see for yourself: An official poster of Varang has now also been published on social media.

Varang is played by "Game of Thrones" actress Oona Chaplin. As you can see, the Ash People are visually different from the Na'vi we know, which was to be expected. The newly introduced Metkayina clan from "The Way of Water" also had a different appearance. Although the Ash People also have the classic Na'vi blue, they are characterized above all by their striking red tones. Towards the end of the trailer, we hear Varang say:

"Your goddess has no dominion here."

She may be referring to Eywa. But of course Varang is not the only antagonist in the movie. We also get to see Colonel Quaritch. Actor Stephen Lang has already revealed in advance that the complicated father-son dynamic between his character and Spider will be further deepened. For now, however, Spider has landed back in the care of the Sully family.

What is there to see of Pandora?

The Ash People introduces another new element to Pandora. While the planet's watery landscapes were explored in "The Way of Water", the focus is now on another setting. The trailer is all about the eponymous fire. There are several shots of the previously unknown landscapes of Pandora. Once again, it becomes clear that "Avatar" is made for the big screen. It should come as no surprise that the shots in "Avatar 3" are also visually impressive.

You can also see the so-called Wind Traders. The clan flies through the air with its gigantic creatures. According to initial information, they are nomadic traders and live in symbiosis with their animals. They look quite impressive in the trailer. Also noteworthy is a brief glimpse of a scene that is probably set outside the atmosphere of Pandora. We are curious to see what we can expect here.

Overall, the trailer conveys a very dark feeling. This is mainly due to the appearance of Varang's clan, the presence of ash and fire and the grief of the Sully family.

When will the Avatar 3 trailer be released?

It has been officially announced that the trailer will be shown in the run-up to the cinema screenings of "Fantastic Four: First Steps". The Marvel blockbuster can be seen from July 25. But we already know that an online release won't be long in coming either. As soon as the trailer is available, you will of course find it immediately in the KinoCheck app and on our YouTube channel – so don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss anything! You'll get to see the movie itself at the end of the year: The theatrical release for "Avatar: Fire and Ash" is set for December 19, 2025. We can hardly wait!
