X-Men Movie: Cyclops actor reportedly confirmed – Kit Connor has been chosen
It was recently reported that Samara Weaving is also set to play a character in the Marvel reboot
In the "X-Men" reboot, Kit Connor is apparently set to play the role of Cyclops, as reported by Deadline. Marvel has not yet commented on the matter. However, according to unnamed sources cited by the website, director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have reportedly made the decision.
Cyclops is one of the most important characters in the entire "X-Men" franchise. In the original Marvel comics, he has been a member of the eponymous superhero team from the very beginning. Cyclops, also known as Scott Summers, made his first appearance back in September 1963. Since then, the hero – whose eyes are the source of a destructive, red-glowing energy – has become an indispensable part of the "X-Men" universe. Not only because he repeatedly appears as the leader of the mutants, but also because he has played a central role in numerous storylines.
In previous film adaptations, Cyclops was played by James Marsden and Tye Sheridan. With Kit Connor, it would now be the turn of an up-and-coming young star. Many viewers are likely to know him primarily as the lead actor in the coming-of-age series "Heartstopper." As a cast member of Alex Garland's upcoming fantasy film "Elden Ring," he's likely to significantly boost his profile. And if he does indeed land the role of Cyclops, he'll certainly be making a name for himself worldwide in the future.
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
Just recently, Deadline reported on the casting of another key "X-Men" character. Samara Weaving is set to play the role of Emma Frost. The mutant, sometimes known as the White Queen, made her debut 46 years ago in the "X-Men" comics. Frost possesses telepathic powers and can transform her body into an organic diamond form. Originally, she was an antagonist of the X-Men. Over time, however, she switched sides and joined the superhero team. In 2011, she was played by "Mad Men" actress January Jones in "X-Men: First Class."
Samara Weaving is known, among other things, for the two "Ready or Not" films. She played the lead role in these horror-comedies. On television, she has appeared as part of the ensemble cast of "Nine Perfect Strangers," among other projects.
The core of the X-Men
The "X-Men" reboot is being directed by Jake Schreier, who previously made "Thunderbolts" for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, who also worked on "Thunderbolts" alongside Schreier, have been hired as screenwriters. Regarding the new writers, Jake Schreier explained to Collider a few months ago:
"When you go back and read X-Men, there's ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that's what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be."
In that regard, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo could turn out to be a stroke of luck. In addition to "Thunderbolts," the two writers have made a name for themselves primarily through their work on TV series that focus on interpersonal drama: Joanna Calo as co-showrunner of the highly acclaimed series "The Bear," and Lee Sung Jin as creator and showrunner of the equally acclaimed series "Beef." We can't wait to see what they come up with for the "X-Men" reboot.
