The successful series "The Last of Us" is apparently coming to an end with season 3. As the story of the second game is very complex, it was split into two parts for the TV production in order to properly reflect the striking change of perspective in the original. One character in particular is of central importance to the plot: Abby's father. And according to Deadline, "Conjuring" star Patrick Wilson has now been cast to play him.

Abby's father is inextricably linked to Joel's momentous decisions in the first season. His death is the emotional engine that drives the events in the world of "The Last of Us" forward and brings Abby to the fore. In addition to Wilson, Jason Ritter also joins the cast. He will portray the character Hanley, a soldier of the Washington Liberation Front.

Filming for the new season is expected to begin this spring. Recently, the celebrated series has been making rather unpleasant headlines. Neil Druckmann, the creative mind behind the award-winning video game series and co-creator of the HBO series, announced his withdrawal from the TV adaptation last year. Druckmann explained his withdrawal by saying that he wanted to concentrate fully on his role as studio director and creative director at Naughty Dog in future. His primary focus is on the studio's next big game project: "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet".

Patrick Wilson's best-known films: A versatile actor between horror, action and drama

Patrick Wilson is one of those actors who cannot be pinned down to one genre. With his calm presence and his ability to portray complex characters credibly, he has earned himself a firm place in Hollywood. He has become a real audience favorite in horror films in particular, but has also enjoyed great success in action and musical productions.

The breakthrough in modern horror: Insidious

A decisive turning point in Wilson's career was his role in the film "Insidious". In this supernatural thriller, he plays a family man whose son falls into a mysterious limbo. The film's intense atmosphere was convincing and it quickly became a huge success at the box office. Wilson manages to portray his character's fear and despair authentically without going over the top. It is precisely this down-to-earth approach that makes the film particularly effective. Its success also led to several sequels, in which Wilson was once again involved.

Between good and evil: Watchmen

Wilson played one of his most interesting roles in the film "Watchmen", which is based on the comic of the same name. There he embodies Dan Dreiberg alias Nite Owl, a former superhero who struggles with his past and his moral doubts. In contrast to classic superhero films, "Watchmen" depicts a dark and complex world in which good and evil cannot be clearly separated. Wilson succeeds in convincingly portraying the insecurity and humanity of his character. This role underlines his ability to play deep and ambivalent characters.

Superhero adventure: Aquaman

Patrick Wilson has also impressed in blockbuster cinema. In "Aquaman", he plays Orm, the antagonist of the title hero, played by Jason Momoa.Unlike many typical villains, Orm is not a one-dimensional character. Wilson gives him comprehensible motives and a certain tragedy. This makes the conflict in the movie more complex and exciting. The film itself was a huge commercial success and introduced Wilson to an even wider audience.

Musical roots: The Phantom of the Opera

In addition to horror and action, Wilson has also demonstrated his musical skills. In "The Phantom of the Opera", he plays Raoul, an aristocratic lover with a talent for singing. The film is based on the famous musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and shows a completely different side to the actor. Wilson is not only convincing here as an actor, but also vocally. This role made it clear that he can do far more than just portray dramatic or dark characters.

Conclusion: An impressive and versatile career

Over the course of his career, Patrick Wilson has established himself as an extremely versatile actor. Whether as a courageous family man in horror films, a complex antagonist in superhero blockbusters or a romantic hero in musicals – he always brings depth and credibility to his roles. His best-known films impressively show how broad his spectrum is. It is precisely this versatility that makes him one of the most interesting actors of his generation and ensures that he will remain an important part of the film world in the future.
